326mx if you are satisfied, then the actions fall within your acceptable range of expectations and it's all good. The flip side is that MY range is different and that all good too.

That is a good point.

However, nobody is questioning Stewart's performance... only his personal actions after completing a race (I guess you could call the race is employee obligation). Adding his post-race interviews into his overall performance is fair. Especially in terms of employment obligations.

I can definately attribute this scenario to real life. I work with a great team. One of our Senior Engineers is a goof ball and a half. He says some off the wall, funny stuff. He keeps us in stitches and even will dance here and there as he is trying to impress the ladies ("heyyyy ladies").

Some have called him unprofessional. However, he is one of the go to guys.

We have another Senior who is quiet. More reserved and extremely well spoken. He is the other go to guy.

I see both of them as being very similar b/c I can trust both of them to accomplish the goals they are obligated to achieve and I can trust them to do it with integrity. Both meet the highest standards of their profession and obligations (both as employee's and parents).

One will dance and play while the other will smile and shy away. Both achieve the same results and when put together are an AMAZING pair. I feel honored to work with these guys! (I am honored and humbled to work with the team I work with right now, it is amazing the way the 5 of us are coming together as a unit).

So, if you take away the comments made in jest or made in poor timing and you look at the person and the achievements then you have the same standard as you would hold your friends. Just b/c a lifestyle may put you in front of a camera is no reason to not be yourself or be forced to speak the way others think you should. It is the overall person that makes the grade with me (and unless I ever get to meet Stewart or he does something really horrible I doubt I'll be too hard on him overall - or any other person).

We both agree that some lines shouldn't be crossed but I believe in this instance we are just splitting hairs and enjoying the conversation (as if we were throwing peanuts at each other over a couple beers). There is just a distinct difference in our perception. I see your point and it does have merit. I may just be more tolerant or more understanding or more naive (which is probably not the case despite how I come off at times). Either way discussions like this is what makes Ping write such great columns in Racer X :thumb: and what equates forums to a cyber-campfire bench racing session.

It's all good.

Geeze, this thread would have been locked along time ago if it weren't for the fact that two moderators were the ones spewing words across the 'net. ;) :)

Greennie baby... your almost right.

I wanted to say something funny to you but I can't think of a *&^% thing :)

One thing about this discussion (and why it wasn't locked) is b/c there were no personal attacks... just disagreement. I think each side said their piece well without getting too emotional or out of hand.

Or... it could be that Patman and I kept unlocking it? :p

Amen to that!  A true lesson in discussion/debate for some of the newbies who go straight to the personal attacks when someone doesn't agree with them.

Yep hes is only 16-i bet most of us here have forgot what its like to be 16-we will never know what its like to be 16, very fast, adored by 1000s, have massive epectations on our shoulders.Have every word/action dissected, getting my drift? hes 16!!!!most 16 year olds have no goals or ambitions-they just expect the world to bend to their needs.

Well here we go again.....

Why give it a rest? Because he's winning? So we should apply different rules to winners? Maybe we shouldn't allow 16 year olds (BTW in this case it's 17) to be considered "professionals" and be done with it. Oh wait that wouldn't be fair since many of those before him that managed to contain themselves we in the same age range. Come on remember Emig was a winner (no disrespect intended to Fro Daddy BTW).

I just think you are setting the standard to high for someone that young, in the situation he's in. Just because he's thrown into the limelight does not mean he has all the tools (yet) to handle it as well as he could. RC was stepping on it BIG TIME at 20. Preston stating on national TV that he was going to kick Walker's ass (twice if I recall) and making threats of pay-back during a race is FAR worse than anything I've heard Stewart say. Does it make it okay for Stewart to demonstrate some youthful exuberance? Just give the kid a chance to mature a little. His riding already has.

And the others before him that contained themselves? If I'm not mistaken, JS is the youngest to ever win the title. You can bet if the team didn't like what the kid said, they talked to him about it. If I'm actually getting to a point  it's ... let's see how he handles the rest of the season before writing him off as "a bad role model".

I think high standards are great! Bubba has been in the light for quite some time, it's just gotten brighter. I'm not talking about championships just winning races and what kind of "performance" is on tap for the future. I think I've seen endzone dancing once or twice and it's moronic, seems the ref's agree since it's been clamped down from what I understand. Additionally it's not tolorated at even the high school level when kids win a state championship which is a pretty big deal.

I never condoned what Preston said and feel from the interview it was pretty obvious he was talking out of his arse.

I'm NOT writting him off but expressing MY opinion on what his current actions are that's all. If he continues to elevate his post race "performances" where do ya' draw the line? I mean being a kid and all...

Wow, everyone has opinion about this that varies from pompous to arrogant.
How can we judge a 17 year man from words that are said just minutes after climbing off a high speed specialized motorcycle that he has ridden against some of the best out there for 15 minutes. I am a fairli articulate 36 year old slow white male but there are times when I get off my bike and I couldn't even complete an entire sentence. Adrenaline is definitely a mind altering drug!
We have time to think about what we plan to communicate on this internet site. Bubba only has minutes or seconds to think about his words. Yet, regardless of what he says or does, we presume that we know him and his personality.
I don't particular like or dislike Bubba, or RC or most other racers. I have seen the sports popularity jump and a more mainstream base of fans when I attend a race. And it is a race, not a staged freakshow like WWF(e). Tempers flare, arrogance arises, people flounder but let it be said:
it ain't boring and people will discuss it to no end on the internet!
