Well, at the top of my "Stupid Things I've Done" list, I must add, "Forgot to put oil in my bike after draining it out. I rode my bike for over three hours yesterday without any oil in it. When I got back to camp and realized it, I drained out MAYBE one ounce of oil. It ran fine and the clutch worked fine. I poured in a fresh quart and everything seems O.K. If that wasn't enough, the hose on my water pump came loose today and I rode about five miles with no water in my radiator. It started "knocking" on my way back to camp but I kept going. Poured in a fresh quart of coolant and she runs like new. I don't recommend doing either one of these things, but if you must, make sure it's a KDX. ;)

Oh yeah! I forgot to brag on my oil of choice. Castrol GTX 10w40. Maybe I can do a commercial for them now.

Harsh.... you got lucky no matter what bike you were ridding, but your lucky it was something like the KDX.

When the bike starts making weird noises, it's time to stop and check it out. I'd rather push my bike to the nearest road than replace a tranny or top end.

If I were you I'd go to the casino quick... lol... before this luck runs out...

Glad to hear it was all cool... sometimes you just gotta go 'whew'....

I could never be that lucky..

No offence, but keeping going when you know somethings wrong is traditionally a wimmin thang. :p

I think your taking your weight-trimming a little too seriously.

The reason I kept going, is because the way it was idling up and down sounded like an air leak, in which case I thought would ge O.K. to ride. Also, I was alone about five miles away from the truck and didn't really know my way out without riding around for a while.
I just changed the oil again today. I started with a very clean drain pan. The oil looked perfectly clean as it hit the pan. After I poured the oil out of the pan, I could see some almost microscopic specks of "glitter" on the bottom of the pan. They were so few and tiny I couldn't even feel them. I think this is probably normal. Oh, and as soon as I put the drain plug back in, I went ahead and put in some more oil. ;)

Yub, up and down idle means the head coolant passage is getting full of air.
Change your oil again soon, can't hurt.

That's a good thing to know. I always wondered "what if my coolant runs out, how would I know before it's too late?"
