any xr200 owners out there havin this prb?

it seems that i cant start my bike.. the battery is fine and new.. so is the rectifier as i just changed it a couple of months ago (due to the same prob)..

i turn on the ignition key as usual.. then when i push the electric start button, the bike makes a buzzing sound and wont start.. i ended up doin a push start to get the bike running..

the problem dies out for a few days.. then it occurs again..

if it is the rectifier, anyone knows how to maintain it?

If you are sure the battery is good with all connections, and you can roll it off, it's time to check that starter....

Just a thought.

Dont know much about your bike.... But sounds like a starter problem to me. It sound like your engaging drive on your starter isn't engaging.

clean all the terminals i dont just mean the ones on the battery, u need to find the relay for the starter clean these terminals aswell charge the battery (check the voltage with a multimeter $8) check all the main battery wires for cuts or burns etc... more than likely its dirty connections i see this on alot of motors with electric start

Well, at least in Brazil they have eletric start. My wife have one and we had a similar problem. Her XR200 had bad contac problems (is it right to say that in english?), meaning that some times you press the start button and nothing happens. The problem was solved revising the eletric system and using a specific spray to eliminate this bad contact.

You can try the following... remove the lateral plastic, take a screwdriver and do a direct link (conecting the two poles). Try some times and if the engine always start, probably the problem is in the start/stop button mechanism. If not, the problem shoul be in the engine starter.

thats called a starter relay if the two bolts are shorted as u said it might make the motor turn how ever i dont think this is the problem as this part either works or doesnt

your spot on the stuff u used would have been acid based the best method i came across was sand papper than spary WD-40 all over the terminal before reattaching than spray a finnal time and spary the terminal once every 3 months with WD-40 to stop any futher problems
