CBR "ProPack" Double Sealed Bearings

The rear wheel bearings on my '99 KDX are shot. :(

Has anyone used the "Pro Pack" double sealed bearings from CBR Bearing Co.? If so would you recommend using them?

How long should the rear wheel bearings last? The set in my bike that are shot have only two (hard riding) seasons on them.

I assume that changing the rear wheel bearings is pretty straight forward. Any suggestions as i have not done this before? I have done a search and read some posts from last year on this subject.

I run them front and rear. They are excellent bearings and CBR is a pleasure to deal with. They ship quickly via Priority Mail. They include seals (the rubber outer ones that fit in the wheel hub in front of the bearing, not the dust seals on the bearings themselves) so the cost is in line with OEM replacement. They honor their lifetime warranty. I know because they just sent me a free replacement set, even after I sent them a letter saying in effect that they are nuts to offer that kind of a deal to someone as hard on bearings as I am ;)

They last until they are done lasting.

Depends on too much stuff. Maintenance, load, riding conditions etc.

Yes. Pretty straightforward. Make sure you remove the circlip before you try pounding them out (sometimes it's kinda hard to see). Remove the bearing seals and grease the bearings well before you put them in. Put them in the freezer overnight for eaiser install. Piece-'o-cake.

Note that some like the 'one side sealed' approach to bearings, some (BRush for one, I believe) don't. Take your pick.

Ordered the KDX Rear bearing kit from CBR. The bearings are double sealed NSK bearings. Cost = $34.

YOu can save some money and go to an autoparts store. Have them cross reference this number:

6004X8JRLLX2/3A

Or a 6004 series bearing.

The stockers are usually a Koyo brand bearing. You just need 2 of them. They will either come in a double rubber sealed bearing or SS bearing. The double rubber one is what you want. Cost should be about $9-12 per bearing. Should be a normal stocker for most parts stores.

...or $5.50 per from a local bike shop. AllBalls bearings. Seals both sides now. Obviously without the outer seals that fit onto the hub.

You don’t really save all that much. The autoparts bearings price does not include the seals (Kaw p/n 92049-1203), CBR’s price does. The seals cost about $7 apiece from your local dealer and are essential if you are serious about preventing water contamination. The CBR ones are a better design to boot. By the time you factor in the hassle-factor of running around trying to match up bearing numbers, the CBR deal won’t look so bad.

Well considering that Dennis kirk has the bearings for $3.50 each, plus the seals you are at half cost of the CBR stuff there.

The rears use a 104 series Timken bearing and the front uses a 202 series bearing. The FF sufix is the double rubber sealed bearings.

hey guys, i know its a stupid question but on a bike what are the symptoms of worn wheel bearings ? adn when you replace the bearings you do the race too correct?

Symptoms of worn wheel bearings are when your wheel can excessively move side to side (rotate perpendiculad to the axle).

Maybe, or maybe not ;) . Since they are "guaranteed for life" - if you factor in the free replacements, my current cost is about $18 for a set, outer seals included. When you also consider that they already put in the high quality waterproof grease, saving you the exercise of prying off the little dust seals and doing it yourself, it's not too bad a deal.

Yes. They are ball rollers (not tapered) complete with inner and outer races.

If I can feel it move, it's excessive. Shouldn't be able to feel it move at all (sez me, imo and all that) Same, BTW with the rear shock linkage. 'Touch' the rear wheel on/off the ground and you should feel NO movement that isn't the shock SHAFT going up and down under spring tension. ..as opposed to the shock BODY moving in the unitrack arm.

BRush: Last I asked 'em...CBR didn't have suspension kits complete with swingarm and unitrack bearings. Is that different now that you know of?

canyncarvr: You're right on the movement thing - well - at least i agree with you. Before my last ride in WV I noticed that my rear wheel had some play in it. Just slight - moved back and forth just enough to feel it.

By the time the ride was over my wheel was swinging left & right like a drunkun sailor. I was surprised that it wore out so quickly once it started going bad.

I think I heard someone say they had swingarm, but not linkage bearings for the KDX- but I think you'd have to check with them to be sure.
