chain broke and now have oil leak??

during riding my crf50 today the chain came loose so i was taking off the cover right by the shifter that was covering the chain (not the plastic but the metal piece) and on the bottom screw after i unscrewed it, oil just kept coming out by the screw hole. please view pic to see which screw i'm referring to. and i am going to search on how to take out a link in chain bc that was feeling loose anyhow. if anyone has input on either thing plz reply, i appreciate all help and great forum!

If your chain is so loose that you need to take a link out after all the adjustment is gone you need new chain and sprockets. Also, there is no need to pull the cover off to mess with the chain...

okay, i thought i had to take off that cover to get the chain back on track, I'm not sure if i need a new chain but I was assuming being as it came off and felt loose. i guess that i shouldn't as it's brand new, right?

Did you adjust the rear wheel to get the chain to the right tension?? Did you put the screw back in to see if the oil stops??

i will check on the rear wheel tonight, and as far as the oil, i let it all drain bc i was rushing to find something to catch the oil and by time i found something, all the oil was gone ha

Oil should not come out of that screw hole. If it is one of the two screws that holds the sprocket cover on, they both should be sealed. Remove the side cover and clean the area around the screw boss. I think you will find the screw boss is broken and the oil is coming from the gearbox.

If the screw boss is broken, take it to a good aluminum welder and have it tig welded.

Now, a whole bunch of guys are going to come on and tell you to use JB Weld, putty, Bondo or even bubble gum to fix it but, if you have it tig welded, you won't have to worry about it leaking again.

Then, buy a new rear chain. :cool:
