Chain for '01 CR125?

Hey all. Need a new chain for my '01 CR125 was just going to go to the Honda shop for a replacement, but figured there was a better, and possibly cheaper aftermarket chain. Any suggestions on what to get and where to look? Thanks.

Try flea bay, or the advertised parts houses, and of course price Service Honda. You will get what you pay for, and steer away from any type of ring chain, standard chain is what you want. DID, RK and AFAM come to mind. It used to be the gold chains lasted longer, now it seems all of them are gold. No name and chinese chains, steer away from also. They will stretch more than the stock chain! I hope you are mating it to new sprockets, or else? If you can get a kit, it will be cheaper. Vintage Bob

Buy one of the Primary Drive Chain Sets...it comes with both sprockets and a chain. I disagree about not buying a "ring" chain. I have ran 2 (YZ400F and my current WR426) Primary Drive X ring chains and have had good luck with them. They stretch very little and last for a long time. Everyone I know runs X ring chains.

Thanks guys. I am seeing steel kits and alloy kits, which is better. Also x-ring chains, o-ring chains, and racing chains any opinions? Finally, I am assuming these are all stock sprockets (if it doesn't say otherwise) and wont effect final drive rations? Thanks!

Steel is heavier than alloy but will last longer. Stick with a standard chain, no o-ring or x-ring.

Don't assume anything about the size of the sprockets..

Find the right tooth count that you want, and make sure that's what you buy.

For the .1 horsepower a non ring chain and aluminum rear sprocket gives you, just go with an x-ring or o-ring with steel sprockets(front and rear).

Go with steel sprockets. If you want sizes other than stock, you will have to buy them separate. The kits are only beneficial if you run stock gearing because they only come in stock sizes. Buy an X ring chain. At RM ATV it looks like you save about $20-$25 going with a standard chain...the X ring is worth the money.

Ringed chains on a 125 is insane. Unless you are slowing the hit. The alloy or steel rear sprocket? What good is a rear sprocket that lasts longer than what? The steel rear sprocket loses less than the ringed chains on throttle response, imo. BUT, 1 part goes bad,ie, the front sprocket, you replace the rear sprocket and chain, the chain goes and so do the sprockets. So why buy a chain for double the price, and that outlives radiation? The sprockets will not last that long! There are limits on cheap chains and sprockets, they are like butter. What ever you get, its a dirt bike. Dirt, sand, horsepower and neglect will destroy what ever you buy. A lot of riders idea of a good chain and sprockets will vary! Don't make me get the "book". Vintage Bob

EK MRDL for that 125

then run aluminum rear sprocket and steel front. Add 1 tooth to the rear from stock and you should be good to go
