chain recommendations for TTR 125

The stock chains are stretching faster than I can adjust them on my kids' TTR's. I am looking for replacements but dont know if I need to go with an o-ring or not. Bikes are operated by new riders who dont race or ride too aggressively, but do ride in sloppy wet woods/trails. Do I need an o-ring chain or can I get by with an RK heavy duty chain??? Any opinions are appreciated.

Most shops don't recommend o-rings for the TTR125s (it is a power loss thing). I've used heavy duty RK gold chains and Renthal R-2 chains on ours. They still stretch but last a good 6 months and only cost $30 to replace.

I just purchased a new chain for my TT-R 125 and found that a D.I.D chain works very well. The bike needs a chain with 122 links and the D.I.D chain only comes with 124 links, so you'll have to remove two links. I went with DID's heavy duty series chain because it was only $3 more, and it holds up very well.

122 links? I just ordered 2, 114 link chains after calling 2 different yamaha shops. One specifically told me 114 links, and the other didnt know, but said to get a 120 link chain and cut it down... ???

The 'L' model takes a 122 link chain. The other one uses a shorter chain of unknown (to me) length. Check your manual.

Yeah, I'm sure that it is 122 links. I checked my manual and was told by my Yamaha dealer.

I went O-Ring.
Believe me, my wife doesn't report any power loss, likely your kids won't either. Beats a chain through the case if you forget to tighten it. One less thing to futz with before riding, too.

I had an O-ring chain on mine, too. I could detect a slight loss, but to me, the trade off was well worth it.

An O-ring is nice, but you don't need it. To save money, I wouldn't go with an o-ring. Mine doesn't have one and it runs fine.

Son and wife both run TTR 125 l's. I went with O-ring chain since they will be keeping these bikes for a few years and it is cost effective for me. Yes I do miss adjusting the standard chains every weekend - NOT!!

What brand O-Ring chain did you buy? I am looking for a 428 with 116 links for the TTR-125 (non-L) version. Thanks.
