I'm in the process of getting my 1990 cr500r ready for summer but am having trouble getting my clutch cable to "pull" properly. when i pull the clutch lever in, it is really tight and doesn't feel like it is actuating the clutch basket/plates. I have tried adjusting the cable and had a look at the clutch basket and plates as well as the pivot arm where the cable goes into the flywheel cover and it all seems to look like it is in good condition. This leaves me really lost and tired of pulling apart my bike over and over again with no resolve.
What can I do to fix this problem?? thanks in advanvce

no way to tell if it really is pulling or not is to ride it :)
ALso something I look for on my 250 if it feels like this
1. how is the cable routed
2. mine has an inline adjustment as well as at the perch
3. Some older bikes had adjustment under the clutch cover
4. are the plates sticking?
5. try a better grade oil
6. Did it work when you put it away? what did you change

i could be completely off, but my clutch wasn't working before and i realised it was because the little leaver that the cablr was connected to that opens the clutch was actually bent. I only noticed it after looking at it for an hour because it wasn't obvious at all.
This probably won't help you much, but just make sure it isn't anything as simple like that, and that you clutch cable isn't getting stuck or anything... good luck!
