How hard is this to do? My son's needs to be done and I've never done it. I had a fairly difficult time with top end, but managed to do it in a couple of hours. Should I expect the clutch to be worse or easier?

It is much easier, just ask the dealer that you got the clutch kit from and they could tell you. Or, if you're worried just get an owner's manual for that bike. Or you can go to transworldtransworldmotocross.com/howto. and that will show you how to rebuild a clutch.

A factory service manual is the best bucks you'll ever spend on every bike you own. Step by step how to do it on your specific model.

Clutch replacement? on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being most difficult it might rank a 2 with grip replacement being a 1.

Yup, its all good until your kid takes the clutch out in his first moto and leaves the bike as far away from the pits as possible! haha and walks back to find dad, who is looking for the kid and his bike.

Then when dad pushes said bike all the way back to the trailer to replace said clutch plates... no biggie right??...I've done this a couple of dozen times in my life. How hard could this be now?
WRONG MISTER!

In a nut shell everything was going great. I had all the parts to replace the clutch, even had all the tools with me.
I took my trusty impact wrench, zipping the trigger a few times to impress the guys parked next to us without any tools along. (i know this because they were borrowing mine all day)
This is when the s#@t hit the fan... I ended up stripping off the bolt that holds the pressure plate and clutch plates.
It took me and about 10 of my "now" closest friends ALL DAY to get the damn thing apart. We ended up welding a nut onto the stripped bolt head and impacting that off.
Ended up missing the kids second moto, but now have bike running fine again.

Moral of story......

I'm buying a small welder to bring along with. Damn, how could someone have that really cool little tool and it not be me?
My wife hates me....haha

Well I guess you could make it a 5 if you really tried :)

Here's another way to make it a 5, don't use an impact wrench. Use a screwdriver to hold the clutch basket still and break off the part that one of the spring bolts screws into. :bang: Now you get a new basket too!

Other than that though, you were right Patman, much easier than a top end.

I know it's wrong but I'm really LOL! at that one... because I can honestly relate to it having considered that method once late at night when I didn't want to turn on the compressor and scare my wife since it does make a little noise. :)
