This type of service is geared towards the person that doesn't have a checking account. Over 40% of Wal-Mart customers do not have a checking account. They turn to retail establishments for there check cashing needs. Coinstar is just another service. Remember before ATM machines you used to go to the bank to cash a check with no fee...
Now there's where I'm guilty. My wife gets pissed when I pay extra $$ for a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread. I explain that going to the store and back in 10 min is worth the extra buck or two. Are you sure about that 40% statistic? Mind revealing your source? That would be a good one to pull out next time I get into a Wal-mart debate. Some of them are decent and clean, the local one here is dirty, the people near you in the checkout smell like they haven't had a shower in weeks, and the whole parking lot is one big slick of motor oil and antifreeze that leaked out of customer's cars.
