I was cleaning the cylinder head on my '86 Yamaha XT350 last night. And after a good cleaning and an attempt to dry it off the best I could, I noticed little white spots everywhere...(the kind you see on a corroded battery) What has me really puzzled is that on the other part of the engine block, it was fine....no corrosion of any kind. Why only on the Cylinder head???

I can clean it off and dry it really good, but it just got me real curious... :whoa:

Any ideas why??

The cylinder head corrodes first because it gets the hottest. Was it not painted black from the factory? Maybe you should repaint it.

Yep, thats what I'm trying to do :P I guess I should have stated that too. Sorry.

I guess I'll just have to clean it real good and dry it off really fast so the water won't turn into corrosion.

I just wouldn't even worry about it. If it bothers you, you can wash the head in alodine and prime with a zinc chromate primer (both available at some marine stores).
