Hey i just split my crankcase on a 2000 KX250 and its now ready to be put back together, i was just wondering what kinda sealant should i use. I know theres the stuff the cylmer manual says to use but somewhere i heard you can use Locktight. Or i was thinking you could probably just use some red high temp permatex gasket maker. Any insight would really help thanks.

Permatex spray copper gasket sealant applied to OEM gaskets? I put it on the last base gasket I installed and it seemed to seal very well.

does it have a center case gasket?
i make one from a roll of material -not the thick stuff! ,regular material ,and seal it with a shellack,or indian head ,you have to clean the cases when you use yamabond,so it doesnt bothere me when it comes to cleaning them
i just dont like yamabond ,i would wrather have a gasket ,
just a exacto knife and paitience
i had a yamabond center case seal leak,and i prefer no leaks
the oil can get in the cylinder just like a blown crank seal if it isnt seald good
no permatex,locktight is for screws and bolts,

By adding a center case gasket, you're now increasing the clearances between the case halves and spacing them farther apart. If the engine wasn't designed to have a center case gasket, this isn't a "feature." I prefer to stick to assembling the engine the way the manufacturer designed it.
Countless engines have been assembled with Yamabond 4 (or some other material) and never had a problem. The ones that leak are invariably traced back to poor preparation or damage on the sealing surfaces of the engine cases.

I use Yamabond 4 or Hondabond 4. Same stuff. The key to making it work is preperation. Oil free and clean. Don't make it too thin or apply a gloober of it. A nice bead is all that is requied. It's non-hardning so you can remove it the new time you decide to split you cases too.
To seal paper gaskets, use Fuel Lube. This is the only thing you will ever need. It will seal the gasket but not get hard. It is fuel proof and you can reuse your paper gaskets serveral times over. A light coat is all you'll need to apply. It will also help you seal leaky fuel fittings and oil drain plugs. They use this stuff on aircraft with excellent results plus it lasts for years. :cool:
