Usually we park right on Esse Road as close as it's convienent to park... That way others can see you from Twenty Mule Team Road as they arrive... Esse Road does'nt even really end, it just becomes another dirt trail like most of those streets are out their...
Yes, go about 500-1,000 yards down Esse until it opens up into a small flat and we'll be to the right hand side, about 50 yards away from a big mud bog right to the right of the road.
Looks like we should have some good riding weather. May be a little cold but still good to ride. :aj: Holeshot hopefully you and Joker can make the ride.
We were out there last Saturday and it was really nice. Ddn't really work up a sweat until the ride back to Cal City.
Hey, let's plan on riding to the Husky Monument. I've got another friend who might go too, we should have a pretty good turnout. See you at ESSE esse...
How far is it from Esse to the Husky monument? 40 mile loop or less to be safe with stock tank......hmmmm.....I just checked with the GPS coords given by Jpivey....
It's less than two miles further from my place.....but that doesn't say in what direction each coordinate is....
Big thanks to KX2fitty, Dante and Randy (dont know his DRN name sorry) for putting on a fun ride. I really appreciate you guys leading the expedition. I really would have liked to ridden over to the Husky memorial but I didnt feel right having the friend ride back by himself. I will defianately have to ride out there again. :ride:
Eel good to finally ride with you and Im planning on taking you up on the enduro offer.
Holeshot, havent seen you in ages but was great riding with you again. BTW, you have the pipe now its time to get the bike
Just so some of you know, I made it back to camp WITH my bike this time :) Glad you guys all had a good time. Wow the desert was PERFECT on Saturday. We ended up staging at the green mountain, going up into the Piutes and riding some awesome trails I'd never seen before.
That was a really fun ride. It was an interesting day and I thank you guys for being so patient with the flat tire. When I left that morning I never imagined I'd be getting so much practice changing flats on the trail … not once, but twice ! Definitely appreciate all the help - especially from Dante and Randy.
Anyway a little ride report would go something like this: We met at California City at around 9 AM. The group consisted of myself, Holeshot (KX 125), KX2fitty (KX 250), his buddy Randy (CRF450), Dante (KX 125), BoodaC (CRF450), and his friend Bart (CRF450). We headed out on some 2 track in the flats and eventually got into some nice rocky singletrack and hillclimbs as we made our way toward Randsburg. No mishaps along the way and we eventually wound up at the big sand pit in Fremont Valley - just outside of the town of Randsburg. This is a cool area that Cpt Jack and I rode in several years ago. The sand is just sick here - full on dune stuff ! We headed in for lunch and a nice pint of Mojave Red. Man that tasted good !
We made our way to Johannesburg for gas and then onward to the Husky monument on 5th gear fireroads, with Holeshot leading the way via GPS. 6 miles from the monument KX2fitty noticed my rear tube bulging out from between the rim and the tire ! I tried to pry it back under and promptly flatted it. We changed it on the trail with a bit of MacGyver-ing and tube and air donations from Randy but it wouldn't hold air. So we rode back to the gas station - 15 miles at a crawl on a completely flat rear. That was so annoying. As we luck would have it the tire held to the gas station and we changed it again - this time with another donation of a 21" tube and some air cannisters from some guys just passing through. This time it worked and since it was already about 4 PM we headed back to Cal City directly ! Of course I forgot to gas up so I ran out of gas on the way back - and received donations of gasoline from Randy and then again from some guy camping out in the dez with his family. I'm a knucklehead - plain and simple.
We arrived back at camp close to 5 PM with 90 miles on the ODO. Looking forward to the next ride ! Thanks guys.
It sounds like it was all downhill for you Eel (tire) and Holeshot (kickstarter) as soon as I headed back to the trucks. Im thinking I jinxed you guys. ;)
MrLuckey, lets hear some details of your ride!!!!!!
I was thinking the luck went bad when we lost the buddha factor. That was a good ride and it was nice to meet some new riders and see the ones I know. The ride to Randsburg was pretty epic, buzzing across the dezert tundra and then all the rocky hillclimbs were fun.
Riding out into oblivion past the 395 towards the Husky Monument was an adventure and the fact that we were so close (6 miles) after riding over 40 from the trucks just makes it an official Wrecking Crew mission objective: RIDE TO THE HUSKY and post pics! I think we need to find out more about the route because I know we can ride more dez single track type stuff instead of that opened up vehicle fire road we were on. I'll get some answers and let everyone know.
Let's plan another dez ride soon, maybe the same type of ride to the Husky via Randsburg or maybe Dove Springs. I'll get the computer illiterate Randy to go, he was telling me on the ride home how much fun he had that day, I concurred. Now if we can just find Holeshot's kickstart...
Man, have I been out of the loop or what!? I am planning a ride on the 31st, saturday, not sure where yet, but it'll happen. Been busy around here since our flood and my OT at work. I haven't ridden since DW and have a new bike sitting in the garage. I'm off for 3 weeks now and plan on riding during that time. 89er has been out due to blood thining meds but he'll be back on shortly, heart is doing great. Thanks for the thoughts on us, we are good but miss the rides. I'll be back in the loop soon, but I leave for Sact the first part of Feb, for 12 weeks. Let's set up the ride for the 31st!
