OKAY! I actualy got my parents to consider geting me a new bike :worship:. If they can come up with the money it will probly happen :aj:. I wanted to know what every one here thinks of the CRF230F for a second bike, well third in a way. I started off on my '74 Z50 at 11 then the same year I got my '82 YZ100 and thats what I've been rideing for 3+ years untill now. Im allmost 15 and have been trying to get a new bike. Now heres the info you guys will need to help me. Im allmost 15, been rideing for 3+ years. I ride wood's and some open feilds and about two-three times a year I hit the track. The YZ just isnt the bike for me pluse its OLD! I want a 4 stroke, Less mantence is a pluse! Also it can be lugged through the woods witch I want. Ive sat on it and it seems to fit me well. Tell me what you guys think about this bike and if it would be right for me. . . You might bee seeing a 1982 YZ100 for sale this summer, if im realy realy lucky! (Theres no praying smiley lol)

you're way too young to have an E-start bike. you've got to EARN that priviledge.

how much will your folks spend?

how tall are you? if you are tall enuff, a wr or yzf250 would be great for what you describe.

Oops I for got to say, I'm 5'11" 135 lbs. A WR would be nice but way outta our price range. The CRF is made for woods witch I want and is rather cheep at $3,299 OTD for a '03. I'm mostlikely not geting a new bike soon but maby just maby I might be and this is the bike I feel will be perfict for me. Yes I no I am young for E-start but trust me I feel like im 50 yr's old no jokeing lol. Between my sholder, neck, back, bouth knees, and my anckles killing me, I think it would be very nice to have. And for the YZF Just not the bike for me thats more of a pure MX bike, not what I want. It realy all comes down to money thoe I'm not geting any bike if my parents cant come up with the money. What ever any one has to say about this bike let me know. I have ridden it but that was only about a 10 min ride at the most (no one was supposed to ride it hehe, the delear let me!!!) and that was at the end of summer. Any info would be great!

I bought my 11 year old son ( 90 lbs.) the CRF150. he loves it. I've ridden it a few times and its a good desert/woods choice. For your size, I would bet the CRF230 would be a good choice. I talked to POWROLL about performance upgrades, they have a lot of goodies coming thru R&D right now. Pete, the head R&D guy commented to me that the bottom end main bearings are huge (bigger than some he's seen on 525cc and bigger engines. He doing a stroker for us right now. He also said the head design is better than the XR's and the CRF 150 head flows better than the XR200, so I would guess the CRF 230 head is even better. One thing not to do, he said they tried airbox mods and found on the dyno the stock air box with snorkel in place provides the best performance. Do not alter your air box. They have a replacement for the end cap for the exhaust that improves gas flow ( only $39 ).

at 5'11" you are flat out too tall for that bike.

i don't know what the used bike market is like in western NY, but here in western WA you can pick up a nice used 00-01 YZF/WR250 for a bit less than a new CRF230.

you must resist new-bike-itis. a new shiney bike is great, but after several rides and crashes all you'll have is a too-small, under-powered bike that wieghs a bit too much.

a 1 or 2 year old WR or YZF wouldn't be shiney, but after the newness wore off you'd have a light, fast, easy to ride machine that you won't be bored with by summer's end.

not that a WR/YZF250 is your only choice, but for your size and age i think the CRF230 is a poor choice and one that you'd soon regret.

If you are 5'11 and a trail riding guy, you should look at a late model, used KDX 200. Much nicer than a CRF 230 and at your weight, you won't really need to do any mods for a while.

Hmmm I see. I still dont even know if I'm geting a new(er) bike. I'll take all of what you guys said in to consideration. The CRF dosent feel to small. I cant tuch the ground flat footed? I havent ridden it long enough to tell if I was to cramped or not on it. I would never want to get bord with a bike expecially if it was a brand new bike. Any more info will be great! I hope I can get a new(er) bike, my YZ is realy geting beat and am geting sick of dumping money in it.

I agree with the other posts - consider a KDX200. Reason? It will fit you, it's an awesome trail bike, with front & rear disk, better suspension, etc. for virtually the same money. Chances are you can find a slightly used one for less money than a CRF230.

Having said that the CRF230 is a nice bike - we just got one. However, you will find it too small in a quick period of time (I'm 5'11'', got it for my wife who's 5'4'').
