Hello everyone!

First time dirt rider, would just like some advice on what to get. I am looking at Honda right now, either a CRF250 or 450, but am open to suggestions.

Thanks for a great site!! :)

1) your physical size (both height and weight are important)

6"4 and about 210lbs

2) How physical / aggressive are you ?

moderate, just starting out

3) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ?????

woods, fields, with friends, maybe a track to try it out

4) Do you have any riding experience?

2 years on a Honda VFR800FI

5) Do you think you will race ?

no

6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work?

yes

7) Do YOU have a preference to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?

I've been with honda but am open to suggestions, preferably a 4 stroke

8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?

all makes and models

9) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike?

7-$8000 or less

10) Do you live in California?

no

11) Your age?

36

12) anything else that you think would help form an opinion

first timer for a dirt bike, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am 36 and started riding motocross again last year after being away for 18 years. I went with a 2005 CRF450R and absolutely love it. The bike has so much smooth manageble power but you can also get into trouble with it fairly quickly. All I do is ride a gear high and lug it if it gets to be too much. 3rd gear will go forever!

I hate the 450 in the air and picking it up,if I fall! The 250 is a lot more fun in the air! I am 47 and weigh 165. The withdrawals from the modded 450 are tough, the POWER!
