Hey I have a 2001YZ250f and want to get a CRF250 when it comes out, and want to know what the crf450's engine is like. I know that the crf250 will be different, but comparing the CRF450 to the YZ426 what is the CRF engine like? Basicly I'm asking if the CRF engine is like a trail bike 4 stroke engine or a true mx engine like the YZ's. I don't like trail bike 4 stoke engines. There is not enough excitement it is too smooth and boring for me(no offense to trail riders it's just my opinion thats all). I like the YZF's motors and am wondering where the CRF falls is it like the YZF's or the Trail bikes like XR's? I know that MXA says it is like XR's but I don't believe MXA they are full of BS. So could someone give me an honest awnser on what the engine is like? Does it rip or is it more of a corner speed smooth power? When you come out of a tight turn does it feel like a rocket or like your towing something. I know its fast and will come out of tight turns fast but does it feel fast too?? Anyway I think you guys get what I'm asking so I'll leave it at that:)

With an engine size of 450 you don't want a rocket. The motor is extremly smooth, yet in no way do I find it boring like you imply. It's not the exsplosive type of power like my cr250 yet I'm much faster on it. It will chug like a tractor or if your in the mood it will turn some revs. I used to ride 125's years ago, and yes I still think it's more exciting to watch a 125 screaming on the track but the fast way around a track and the least tiring is also usually the most boring to watch. Usually a bike hooks up the best when you hook up at slower revs, this is what is great on the 4 strokes- you can run a gear higher at lower rpm's and go just as fast but to the spectator it's deceiving - it looks like you are going slower- just an illusion. I'm sure you will find the new 250 to your liking, although it's going to be hard to beat that nice 250f motor and suspension for that matter. That's a nice bike.

Hey,
From what I've heard the CRF is deceptively smooth. So, in that case, it is like an XR. If you want/need that arm jerking, wheel spinning, out of control hit at mid RPM's then you better stick with the blue bikes. The benefit to the smooth power delivery is that you have gobs of power on tap everywhere throught the RPM range, not just in a "sweet spot." Furthermore, that I'm aware of, there are no official announcements for a CRF250, so it may be a while before we see one. Good luck.

Yes, the motor is very smooth, but try coming out of corner in 2nd or 3rd and turning the throttle all the way open quickly. Full throttle, not 1/2 or 3/4. You will either scare yourself to death, loopout, run off the track or all of the above. It is smooth because you can dial in how much you want, but wide open it wheelies in a hearbeat and you better be pointed straight. Grab a handful and you'll get all the excitement you want and then some, just like all open bikes. The CRF250 will be different and peakier, just like the 250F because of its smaller displacement. Trying to figure out how it will run by comparing it to an open bike won't work in my opinion, as they are 2 different animals.

I have not ridden one, however I followed one on the track the other day. From what I could tell, it sounded like the CR pilot was lugging it most of the time. He was able to stay in front of me, so the bike had very good power. I observed very fast throttle response and rapid acceleration out of corners. He chose to rev it out in certain sections of the track, I guess to aviod shifting, however he did not pull away when revving way up. I would say the engines torque is mid RPM biased. As far as lap times, he was slightly faster than the 125's out on the track and right with the 250's. My bike is powerful, and most 250's cannnot hang in accel.

AFTER RIDING MY BRO-IN-LAW'S 98' XR400R, AND RIDING MY CRF450R, I'D HAVE TO SAY THAT THE 450'S POWER IS JUST LIKE THE XR. SUPER SMOOTH. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THAT I CAN TELL IS, ON THE XR YOU PIN IT AND SAY " OH... THATS NICE " ON THE 450 YOU PIN IT AND SAY " HOLY ****!!!!!THAT WAS WILD, LET ME DO IT AGAIN ".....MXADDICT IS 100% RIGHT ON.....IF YOU PIN IT, YOU BETTER BE POINTED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION . AND YOU BETTER BE UP ON THE TANK. ITS CALLED INSTANT THROTTLE ALL THE TIME. I GO WAY FASTER ON MY 450 THAN MY 01' CR250R.

i think you should re-read his question, and then re-read it again. I am wondering the same thing. He is NOT comapring the 250F to the 450F, he wants to know (like me) if the CRF250 (when it comes out) will have the same two stroke feel like the YZF250. I hear KTM is also bringing one out, and if it is based on the 400/520, then i don't think it will have the same punch as the YZF250. If you have ridden a 400/520, then you will know just how smooth they are in terms of power delivery. Everyone here has said the CRF is pretty smooth as well, but only time will tell if the CRF250 will be the same. I hope not.
