I just put mine in the shop for a leaking water pump seal.Mine had a drop of fluid coming out the weep hole(under water pump),the manual says if radiator fluid or tranny oil come out of this hole then replace both seals.A hundred and a quarter! I would do it myself if you didn't need two or three special tools to do it. Has anyone had this problem? The bike is six months old and almost pampered.

sounds kinda fishy to me, if they tell you exactly what to replace if a drop of water comes out, kinda like it has hapened many times before....

the weep hole was put on this motor for just the sole purpose of signaling a leak in either the coolant seal or the tranny oil seal.these seals are located on either side of this little hole and if any fluid gets past the seal then it will drip out the hole. i just want to know if this is rare on a fairly new bike or if others are having problems. i might need to get the tools to do this myself if there is a next time.

Your's isnt the first one I have heard of, but the special tools thing is news to me. Almost everyone I have seen has been fixed by the owner.

I looked in the repair manual at the dealer and I believe there were two honda tools-somthing like a seal remover and I can't recall the other.I have to pickup the bike in a couple of days, I will find out then.

The only other tool I could imagine would be a seal driver-to install the new seal. You can remove the old seal yourself by a number of methods, and a socket and rubber mallet works well as a seal driver. Two things to be careful of: Don't damage the case when prying the old seal out, and take note of where it is in relation to the case so you don't drive the new one in too far or not far enough. As far as a leaking seal, there's no conspiracy there! Sometimes they just start to let go.

Does anyone know if the bearings on the waterpump shaft have to be removed to get to these seals? That is the main reason I didn't fool with the repair( I hate messin w/pressed on bearings)I'm hoping that this is a isolated thing, I know stuff happens. It really hurts when it costs alot for ten dollars worth of seals.

There are two seals, an oil seal and a water seal, the weep passage is between them. I'm calling the outer seal the water seal, and the inner one the oil seal. If you have oil coming out of the weep hole the inner seal is bad, if you have coolant coming out of the weep hole the outer seal is bad.

The inner seal that keeps the oil in the motor is held in the cover behind the water pump bearing, so yes, you need to remove this bearing to replace that seal. The outer seal can be replaced more easily, you don't even need to remove the cover, just remove the little pump cover and impeller and fish it out, be careful not to mar the surface of the impeller shaft. Note which way the old seal is oriented, if you put the new one in facing the wrong way it will leak. Make sure you grease the lip of the new seal or it may fail.

It is not totally unheard of for a new bike to leak coolant past the outer seal, sitting for long periods w/out operating may cause it to loosen up or something. Point being, if it is a new bike and only dripping here and there it may correct itself. If not this is a very simple fix, ten minute job tops.

Hope this helps.
