I looked at a used CRF450R and felt right at home on the bike it was awesome but i dont know if i could handle the power of a 450 im 5'5 150lbs 14 years old nd i have alot of expierience on a ttr125 and some on a yz250 and i did ok on the 250 it was a little to tall for me and i do trail riding. whats your opinion of me riding a CRF450R maybe with a flywheel weight do ya think i could handle it or what?

It would be a huge step, IMO. I'd look into a CRF250, or the "X" model (woods). Although the X's are new and will be kinda pricey. I've got a TTR125 also, with every mod I can think of except the cam/big bore kit, and the difference between it and my 450 is huge. On the other hand, depending on how comfortably you could control that YZ250, and how judicious you are with the throttle, the 450 might work out. The power delivery is much smoother than the 2-stroke, but could still get away from you in a panic situation. Another issue is that the 450 will require considerably more basic maintenance than the TTR-oil and filter changes regularly, so be prepared for that. Hope this helps.

i didnt handle the yz250 to well cuz it was a little to tall i think i could of handled it better if it was shorter like the CRF450R it has about 37inches from ground to seat the yz is around 39 and the yz i rode was modified for a taller rider so that didnt really help much but overall i did ok on the yz just couldnt go wide open all the time on it like my TTR125 hahaha.i think im just gonna have to ride the CRF450R and see for myself.i will most likely end up with a 250 4 stroke somthing lol i have no clue what brand though suzukis bike is the shortest nd i like the smaller bikes betr but it overheats like a mother Fr and the yamaha yz250f is too tall and the honda crf250r is short with a good engine but i dont know about the crf250x that joker is expensive ill have t look at more then just the price tag next time i look at it

and my sentences r too long nd i dont spel out words and...and... :nener:

If you are a good rider, you will likely be OK on the CRF, otherwise you will probably hurt yourself badly.

I bought a KX250 when I was 14. At 5'9" 130 lbs, that bike was a little big for me, but it was very fast and very fun.

It all comes down to how confident you are that you can control the bike.

I'm 14 and I ride a yz490 2 stroke. If you have experience and throttle control you'll be fine. Starting bikes up over 400cc can be pretty hard.... my bike put a hole in the bottom of my kicker boot.

I bet you could handle a 450 fine once you got used to it, but you would have an advantage on a 250F. You are light enough that a 250F would allow you to hang with most 450 riders in a drag race. When it comes to braking and cornering, the lighter 250F would give you a speed advantage that outweighs the minor difference in acceleration. I'm about 210 lbs and I ride a 450. There are fifth-graders on 80s who are light enough to hang with me on most straights.
