Devol or Works Connection glide plate?

I am trying to decide between a Works Connection and Devol glide plate and haven't been able to find much input on the Devol. I was planning to get the WC, but after looking at them closer it appears that they don't completely protect the lower frame rails. Do the Devol plates provide more protection or are the two about the same?

I just recently purchased a Tag glide plate. I know you are asking about Devol or Works connection, but i just want to give you my input on the
Tag.
Fit and finish is excellent. It somes in a nice shiny silver finish, (cant find any other terms to describe it :confused: ) Thr clamps hold it on very tight and pretty much flush with the frame. It looks to be very strong and effective. It also comes with factory foam. If you have any wuestions just post em

Does it completely cover the lower frame rails? Are they still on back order? Thanks.

It does not cover the frame rails. The Tag GLIDE plate is exactly what it says it is. A glide plate. It is not supposed to cover the frame rails. It fills in the area between the frame rails, so if you case a jump or hit a rock you will glide over them. Does the Devol or Works connection cover the frame rails?

I don't know for sure. I don't think the WC does, but I think the Devol might. That is what I want to find out. I would like some protection for the frame rails as well as the engine cases.

Yamaha1 i did some searching for ya. Here ya go the Devol does cover the frame rails, but it does not look to be too thick IMHO.

I am worried about this. It might be hard to mount. Check up on how you mount this..

But again it does noty look to be very thick...

Being here in WA state were devol is located I have seen quite a bit of thier gaurds at the local races I would pass up the devol stuff easy. The thickness is like half of my WC gaurds. I'm starting to get the general idea that the only real good devol gaurds are the rad gaurds the rest is only so so. I have the WC MX glide plate I got it mainly to protect the cases from flying rocks and to help with hanging up thats about all they are good for I know for fact that if I hit the frame hard enough on say a rock its still going to dent/bend it anyways they are not fail proof items thats for certain.

My friend (with a YZ400F) bought the WC plate. He said it was perfect except the bolts they sent him were too short.

Thanks for the great write up. Still a tough decision. I would like to cover the frame rails like Devols does, but have the thickness of the WC plate. Also, it doesn't look like the Devol plate comes with foam like the WC does and that is another downfall. Thanks everybody.

Yamaha1 i think you are correct saying that the Devol does not have "Factory Foam" ;)

The WC does come with foam. If you really want to Devol and it does not come with foam ,you can go to your local hardware store and buy some foam. That is what i am going to do when the time comes.

I got two of those foam things from WC I used it like a few times and took it out right after a good mud ride. It caught more mud then it did without it in there.

Im keeping the foam in there until i have to change the transmision oil. I worked out most of the mud with a good ol blast from the hose.

The skid plate doesn't really need to be too thick.. My Works Connection skid plate was bent, wrinkled, gouged, and cracked after a while. The Devol would be the same, but the frame rails won't take the abuse.

Both will look trashed after a while, it's okay if it bends a bit, it's doing its job. I'd go for the one that has more coverage.

Marcv125, how often do you change your oil?
I left the foam in, and cut a hole in it where the drain hole is.

I fought with the WC glide plate enough just trying to mount it, without the foam.. I didn't put the foam in there until I had the engine out of the frame, made things much easier. :)

I change my oil every three months, or around there. I will check my oil level constantly but i will wait until i see the fluid getting darker. That is when i change my oil.

Just curious, as most guys change it every ride.

Change tranny oil every ride??? that seems way to much to m, and not to mention costly. I only change my oil every three months because that is the amount of time that the oil starts to turn darker and that is when i change it.
I use maxima MTL 80w It has been great to me. Never used anything else.
