DG skid plate?

Anyone use one of these old (1995?) DG baja wrap around skid plates? Discontinued a few years ago so I can't find much info on it. . I'm wondering if it actually goes around the pipe or does it not protect pipe like a regular type skid plate. I'm looking to buy one but I can't tell much from the pics I have seen.

Hey... my brother has one of those.... weird looking sucker! He wants to chop the scoop off before mounting it. He may trade for a standard skid plate. It goes around the pipe underneath. Like a big scoop! We call it a mud catcher! :)
