different year shock parts interchangeable?

broke my compression adjuster on my shock. looking on epay for a shock to use as replacement parts. i have found a 98 shock and a 2004 shock. are parts on these shocks interchangeable with a 2002 shock? i tried looking them up on parts lists and they seem to have different part numbers and i don't know if that is just due to different years or different shocks.

would that 2004 shock work on an 02 frame?

A 2004 shock will fit the 02 frame and I am pretty sure most of the parts will interchange.

I have an 00 shock that I would part out. I know the 02 and 00 compression adjusters and shock bodies are compatable. How much of it do you want/need?

the compression adjuster (clicker) is trashed. so i really just need that complete setup. i wouldn't mind just putting on a whole new shock so that i don't have to service mine (lazy man speaking). what would you want for that piece (or the whole shock for that matter).
