I'm the same way. I've piled up and had the wind knocked outta me several times, and while I'm gasping and wheezing for breath, I'm also frantically picking the bike up and checking it over to make sure its OK. Health insurance will pay for a busted arm or leg, but I gotta pay for a crumpled up bike!

BROTHERS !!! You guys must be my long lost brothers, how else could we have so much in common ??

I always tell my riding buds, "hey, I heal for free (except for the $5 co-pay to my HMO), but the bike costs money to repair! Last summer I had a nasty bail out from about 15 feet in the air. I landed hard on both heels and thought for sure I had broken my ankle. I hopped on one foot over to the bike, picked it up and inspected it for damage. When I determined the bike was un harmed, I allowed myself to scream in pain !! I also have this nasty habit of hanging onto the bike for dear life amidst impending doom, so that I can guide the bike to a safe landing spot before I eat dirt !!!

I am also guilty of all the above. My bike is on the stand at the moment and I have been cleaning and polishing. I love to slap the seat and talk to it. My neighbor caught me this past summer! He must think I am nuts 'cause he really doesn't talk to me much anymore. I ride my bike all year every week and when it is down I am grouchy. It is easier for me to say I love my bike than to say I love you to my girlfriend. Now that's some messed up shiznit!

I just went outside because of this thread. It's 11 pm. Gotta love that thing. My only problem is, how can I clean it when the hose is frozen? Also, I'll be getting my pickup in a little while, is it okay to ALWAYS have the bike in the back? Sounds like a good idea to me.

I do that if I've just washed it, trying to convice myself that I'm just looking for broken bits that were covered with mud. Mostly when I'm sitting on it, I'm riding it, which is about 5 days a week atm ... maybe riding more would cure y'all? ;)

lol about the cleaning the dirt bike w/ a frozen hose..i did it 2 days ago in 31 degree weather, but this is what i did. If you leave the hose running for a couple, well five minutes, water will start to come out little by little until you have full pressure. :) wait i think i need to change the tranny oil :eek:

My bike isn't even at home where I can look at it or do stuff to it. :(

I can tell it's going to be a long winter! I am going to try riding when it's colder tho... maybe down to about 10-20 degrees.

I love the winter teardown phase.. My baby is scattered all over the garage floor right now. She's getting a heart transplant (new top end), fresh grease/oil on anything that moves, all new fluids, a new chain and sprockets, new tires, a suspension revalve, and a nice spray9 bath on everything, right down to a toothbrush. If it really behaves it might get a new steel braided CR-style front brake line, plastics and graphics kit.

I hate to confess. but like you guys, I loved to look at my bike whenever I park my bike for a coffee session. never gets tired of looking at it. maybe I don't really need a woman? A bike will do me fine!:p

Now I don't feel quite so crazy.:o Having an attached garage can be a curse. I find myself walking out there to get something, suddenly "waking up" minutes later, after fantasizing a few minutes, trying to remember why I'm in the garage in the first place.:think :confused:

Yep I've got it too! Maybe worse, I can't walk by my motorcycles without starting them....Gotta love the smell of race fuel:) I even change the order in which they are on the stands so I don't see the same one first everytime. Don't want the bike jealousy thing popping up. Spread the love!;)

i am the same way. i think it's because it doesn't cost me anything to heal, but bike repairs do!

i look at my bike through the window of my shed all the time. neighbours must think i'm a pervert, and i am. i look at the curves, and the beautiful colours. i'm sick i tell ya, sick! i don't have a girlfriend, and honestly i don't think i need one while i have my Yamaha. it only costs me $2 to take my bike out all day, but a girl would take something like $50 to take out for the day.

Oh yah, I never saw this thread or I would have jumped on it along time ago LOL
But I have to admit I am WAY WORSE than all of you.
I will go out and just stare at my bike for an hour sometimes, just looking at it, and maybe making the smallest adjustment.

But the worst part of all,:ugg: I talk to my bike frequently
If I have a good day, I will say "Hey we had a goodday today huh? That pass we did was so sweet"
If I bend a pipe I aplogize and tell the bike I will replace it soon!
When I didn't have graphics I told it that it still looks good and it will look better soon.

When we crash, I often ask it why?

Ahh who am I kidding, I call it "it"
when I really I refer to it as "him"

Its not just a dirtbike thing. The first winter my parents were divorced, my dad allowed his streetbike to sleep in THE DINING ROOM.
I think you have to get a divorce to pull this off.

nice talking to the bike. well you must really love your bike. thats cool with me. I do a form of that. like when i am riding and someone is ahead of me i kinda talk to my bike saying"comon baby you can do it" or something like that. Now that is cool having a nice streetbike in your living room. Start it up!!!!!:)

I check on the bikes. Every evening. Someone had to tuck them in. ;)

While I'm in the air, coming up short on a jump or flying over the bars, I'm thinking of only one thing; please, please let my bike be uninjured. :)
