Does 2-stroke oil degrade once mixed???

Hi there all, Can anybody help me with this.
According to my Honda manual is says that you should mix your petrol and 2-stroke and use it within 24 hours as the 2-stroke oil losses its lubricity once mixed with the petrol. It also states you should use the oil within one month of being opened. Should I follow these instructions ? (I use a fully synthetic 2-stoke oil)..

Premix is only good for about 2 weeks if you use pump fuel. It lasts a bit longer with race gas. The oil doesn't loose its properties, the gas looses it "punch".

If you can keep your gas in a steel can that is tightly sealed. your gas will last much longer in this.Its the exposure to air that causes your gas to break down. Even plastic cans can leak air.I say about 1 month in plastic containers. And up to 6 months in a steel can. The stuff in your tank about 2 weeks because of your vent tube, it gets exposed to more air.

So the 2-stroke oil does’nt degrade and lose its lubricity once mixed with the petrol???

Your manual is stating a very wide general protection of fault to protect itself.

if you have a dinosaur based two stroke oil mixed with decent gas the oil should not separate, the gas gets stale. The gas will lose its low end boiling points,in other words the easier lighting,easier to vaporize with the air parts of the gasoline will evaporate. this could effectively lean out your jetting and cause problems but I would suspect that this would be an extreme example.

But if you use a castor based oil and or a gasoline that has alchohol in it as an oxygenate your oil can and will separate from the gas which could happen in a relatively short time.

I don't believe that the oil in itself will loose its lubricating properties as it is stated word for word but the mixture will change its properties. Whether the gas getting stale or certain oils and gas additives coming out of mixture might cause you problems that Honda doesn't want to get blamed for.
