Does anyone make a compression release for a KX500

I have a buddy that has several KX's---his 500 being his favorite. He sold it yesterday and says he already wants another but hates kicking them over (???I know, I know). He asked if I could locate any source for a compression release for late model 500's. He even stated he was thinking about tapping the head and inserting one from a vintage '70's Yamaha. Anyone have any info that may help him?

Don't let your bud try to drill and tap another 14mm hole in a KX500 head!
He will break into the water jacket long before he gets to the cylinder head dome.

why not just have a small hole drilled into the exhaust port somewhere low enough to not affect high speed running, but high enough to bleed low-speed compression. Or just have the head worked on or add an extra base gasket or two.

RoadRunner-
Good thinking but Kawasaki beat you to it. They put two small grooves rising up from the exhaust sub ports. Maybe they could be given a little more area with out hurting HP.

Thanks for the replies men. I had suggested the extra head and base gaskets to him but he felt it would either effect power too much or not reduce compression enought to make a difference. As far as tapping the head, the first thing out of my mouth was the likelyhood of hitting a water jacket, but he still thinks it can be done. I told him before he buys a new bike and makes an expensive paper weight with his drill press, I'd try to get some answers for him. I'll pass on everyones advice and let "Dr. Frankenstein" make his own decision

Kicking the 500 is not hard if you only have to do it once an hour or so. This is what I did. I had a shoemaker attach a steel shank to my right riding boot. What a lifesaver. I ride my 500 in open harescrambles, and by the end of the day, the arch of my foot was so ****in' sore I limped for a week. Try it, you will like it.
