Ok I heard that using a double head gasket will increase compression and double base gasket will decrease compression, is this true? I was thinking of using 2 head gaskets on my CR but they use the super thin metal type gasket. Will this help any? :uh:

Using a double gasket on the head or the base of a cylinder will lower compression. Only thinner gaskets in these areas will raise compression.

Gasket Stuff

Chris is right, by doubling up either gasket the compression will descrease slightly because you are effectively making the cylinder taller in each case. I run base gaskets from a friend that builds micro-sprints which are about half the stock ones. This is easy because they all run CR250's or a few run YZ250's and I have a CR.
One cheat you can do is to take a little off the top of the cylinder and run multiple base gaskets or a sleeve to make the exhaust port higher. This will allow your bike to rev higher. But I think that if you are going through this work, you might as well just get the top end ported properly.

OK thanks guys for the help guys. ;) CRguyStan I'm looking at a E Gorr '96 or '99 CR150 kit ($475) for my bike when my topend needs a new rebuild or buy a '95 cylinder ($250) from this place and send it off to get ported ($150). :)

Yeah I was wondering about the two gasket thing too. I run pump gas in my 01 CR 125 and does anyone think i could get away with using two gaskets on the head or base because I am getting worried about detonation! Oh yeah the motor is stock but I read that that model needs race gas.:think

The newer CR motors '00+ had lower compression then the older CR motors that's why people choose to run '99 cylinders on their new CRs. You should be able to run 92 pump gas with your CR stock unless you raise compression. That is what I think. :uh:

I can vouch for the E Gore 150 kit.Just did one on my sons `98CR.This thing rips!! feels alot like a light 250  It feels strong enough that I might have to slip it out in my vet class for a race or two, just to see how well it can hang with the big bikes!:)
