I'm sure a CR-500 or something is the ultimate dune bike but I'm determined to use my DR-Z there. I rode my YZ there a few years ago, so I can ride sand reasonably well.

Anyway, anybody using a DRZ in the sand? I've got DOT knobbies on it (Dunlops, can't remember the numbers) and they are agressive for dirt tires.

But for the dunes I was thinking of using a paddle tire. I am considering just buying a new wheel. What kind of wheel would you get, a 19" or a 18" if its going to be used to mount a sand tire? How many paddles on the tire? 8 or 10? Any brand recommendations on either the tire or the wheel?

Also, what about the gearing. Mine is stock. I don't really care about highway performance. (It goes about 85 now on the freeway, about 75 on a dry lake (more resistance?). That's cool but I think I could gear down for trails. One nice effect would be easier wheelies.

What is good all around gearing? What is good gearing for the sand.

Will the engine sieze from all day in the sand? I sure hope not.

Thanks in advance for your advice. Hope to see you in Florence later this spring.

Yeaaaaa!
