At Steve's recommendation, I started running a CR 1468 needle. It is a bit lean on the top but as I'm not a good enough rider to be revving it out all the time, that's ok. It seems to run cleanest--no spooge at all--and smoothest with that needle on the 3rd clip, a 182 main and a 45 pilot. We tried the "I" needle that came with the bike--one step leaner than the "H" that came in it--but it burned a LOT of gas (ok, so some leaked out while I was on the ground, but not THAT much) and fouled a plug trailside. So we went back to the 1468.

Now would the next leaner KTM jet, the "J," be better? Is there a "J?" Should I lean out the pilot? I think we tried that and it was stumbling a bit and too lean but I can't remember. Would a leaner main help?

I don't believe there is a 'j' needle.

Here is some info from the KTM yahoogroup, although it doesn't say a lot, you can at least read the needles. Did you unsub?

___________________________

The 14xx series needles are richer 1/2 to 3/4 throttle compared to the 13xx series. The second series of # s effect 1/8 to 1/2 throttle. Therefore a xx67 needle would be richer than a xx68 needle. The 1468n will be leaner form 1/8 to 1/2 throttle & richer 1/2 to 3/4 throttle as compared to the 1367n.

14 = 1.45 degrees taper
13 = 1.34 degrees taper

67 = 2.67 mm diameter
68 = 2.685 mm diameter

The last letter is where the tapper starts from measured from the top clip.
A= 34.55
B=35.00
C=36.35
D=36.8
E=38.15
F=38.60
G=39.95
H=40.40
J=41.75
K=42.2
L=43.55
M=44.00
N=45.35

Now how all this works in the real world I'm still figuring out... :eek:

I still get the KTM group mails, but I've been too busy to read them--been shoving them in a folder for perusal later. There are so many regarding jetting that I was more confused than ever. I may put the I back in for our Florence Dunes trip next month--my first sand experience! Yay! Anyway, what would the main and pilot affect? Pilot is bottom end, main is top end, right? Oh, I'm so confused! I think it's fine where it is, I'm just curious if it could be better.

Just remember to jet on the rich side at the dunes... and be careful! My first dune ride was a disaster. The other side of the dune can just drop off. :scream:

Anyway, this is where those jets work...

Closed to 1/8 throttle air screw and pilot jet
1/8 to 1/4 throttle air-screw, pilot jet, and throttle slide
1/4 to 1/2 throttle throttle slide and jet needle
1/2 to full open jet needle, main jet

To be honest, my bike runs pretty good and I haven't messed with the jetting at all. But now that it's getting hotter, my bike is getting sluggish and spooging a lot more. I think I need to lean it down low and I'm going to start with the I needle and a smaller pilot... good luck, and let me know what works for you.

FC22 - stick with the single taper needles. If you are lean on top go to the 14 67 after exhausting all cip positions on the 1468.

Here what I would do first, because it is easiest: Bump the main one - 185. You can do this just by turning the carb on its side, and accessing through the float bowl drain bolt. If that is not the answer, raise the needle one (4th clip). If you bike is now smooth, no spooge, and slightly lean on top, you are almost there.

If you must monkey around with the stock KTM needles, drop the pilot and main. This will help your gas milage, and still shouldn't be too lean.

Good LucK!

So how much difference would one clip position make? Let's say I dropped it to the fourth position on the 1468--would I notice much of a difference?

One clip position is enough to go from lean seize(if it was a bit lean already) to rich enough to get away with no ploblems.

Thats a good chart for the 13x, and 14x needles William. I can see how the 13 series needles might offer more smoother power delivery than the 14 series, or dreaded triple tapers.

Sharla,

I live in same area and ride a 00 200EXC and my friend has 01
Here is my jetting is is great maybe a little rich on top but that is for safety but it cleans out very easy.
needle 1468 4th position
main 190
pilot 48
air screw 1.5
I was in process of trying differance between 1468 and 1367 when my buddy bought a 01 200EXC and felt compelled to give him good jetting and my 1367 needle was out at the time so I put it in his and he loved it.
01 jetting
1367 4th position
main 185
pilot 48
air screw 1.5
neither of us have fouled plugs and no pinging.
Can't wait to try 1367 needle again because I have read that the hit on 1468 is harder as posted above more of a motocross hit.
I hope I find this to be true so I will have a needle for 2 riding styles.
good luck
:D
