Dumped the bike.....

Yeah, only had it for 3 weeks now and I am still pretty darn mad about it still........ loaded everything up on the trailer yesterday, taking the family riding at the track so I start driving out of the driveway and hit the bump going onto the street then the wife starts yelling the bike fell over.............................................................................................................. hanging upside down ( on the street) #%$$&*@#%^!!!!!!! bent handlebar, ground down the master cylinder to where a little more it would start leaking, broke the throttle cable connection and screwed up the slide. I know I had those straps tight with the forks compressed real good........ do I have a defective tiedown? I have never seen one let go myself.. have you? now I am calling around for pricing to get it all fixed. ahhhh only money :) just venting here sorry. Jeff.

fix it yourself and save some money. it's not that hard to replace the handlebars and master cylinder.

yeah, thats what I am doing... but in reading my post again it does sound as if I was looking for a mechanic :)

Are there any aftermarket parts for the items I need? Thanks Jeff.

No sweat man (although you have to keep an eye on such an awesome bike). You are lucky you didn't bust the master cylinder, b/c those are money. The throttle tube should be about $12 unless you want to upgrade to a billet one ($45). You wanted to upgrade to Pro-Tapers anyway, right (hehe)?

What tie downs are you using? If you are using cheap tie downs, it could have slipped. I use Ancras and have never had a problem. One thing I found to be very helpful is using bungee chords and the bar saver straps. Run the bungee chords diagonal from the anchor of one tie down to the top eye hole of the opposite tie down and vise versa (hope that made sense).

My friend thought he was getting a sweet deal when he bought 4 tie downs for $7.00, well he was wrong. They slipped before they were even close to being tight. Luckily we found out they were junk before we drove down the road. The little tabs that lock the strap just kept bending.

I think I am going to have to replace the master cylinder soon, it's real close to leaking as it ground it down pretty good on one corner to where I can see the seal between the top plate. Yeah.... I needed to upgrade those handlebars anyway :) and come to think about it the tiedowns were 10.00 each from the dealer but I have no idea if they sold me an expensive el-cheapo's ? plus that master looks like S%&* now..... just hard to look at after I spent all that money a few weeks ago..... I will take a picture tonight of it and post it up here. Jeff.

This kind of stuff happens bro! Shake it off......it could have been alot worse....imagine if you got going faster down the road and then it fell! :bang: My roommate bought a crappy little 100cc bike a couple of months ago. Even though the bike isn't the greatest we all liked it anyways. Well after riding it around a bit he had parked it in the driveway right behind my Jeep. Later on I jumped in my Jeep and back into it fairly hard. It broke the handle bars and bent both rims. What was funny about it was the fact that he got mad at me for hitting it when he was the one who parked it behind the Jeep. My Jeep is lifted and you can't see much behind you. Considering the fact that he had only had the bike for 3 hours and I had hit it already! I felt pretty bad about it but it wasn't like I was use to it being around the house! He is lucky I didn't run over it with the 33in tires I have! :laugh:

Thanks guys, I called around for parts today and it's not to bad... 256.00 for everything but the handlebars....on the other hand that's an awful lot of riding fuel. Jeff.

I know its too late but I always use 2 tiedowns per side, and make knots tight up against the latch so if it does slip it can't go far. I'm extra careful since a CR250 I used to have somehow fell off the trailer and nearly overtook me whilst sliding along the tarmac at about 50mph, before hitting the opposite bank. Luckily no one was coming the other way, but the amount of metal and plastic that can be ground away in a short time is quite amazing.
Also, those bits of webbing with a steel loop on each end which go over the bars are much more secure than passing the tie-down around and re-attaching to itself. The tie-down hooks are intended to attach to your bars or steel loops, but a lot of people don't like to put the hooks on nice shiny bars.

Ouch.....worse than mine but I hear ya..... Man this sucks, thinking about what could have happened and wat did. I think I will go to the two tie down method. The good thig is I can get the throttle parts by Tuesday but however the master cylinder is backordered for a un-known amount of time............ it still works for now but just thinking about if it gives out when I need it the most :) what's up with this? a new bike and it's backordered? is there a problem here with the 04's jumping off of the trailers? could anyone out there ask their Yammerhaw dealer if there is one in stock for me? I asked two shops around here... no luck. Thanks if you can take a little time out for me and the bike. Jeff.

Ah, don't worry. I dropped a V65 Magna off a trailer on the way to Lawrence--about 10 minutes after my mother told me that either the bike goes, or I go.

I always run a tie down through the back tire and hook it to each side of the truck that way if it falls over it still isn't going to fall out. Also I have full coverage insurance that will cover a serious fall.

OK, I just checked YOT and they don't have the 2004 microphiche up yet. You might try calling them, I know they will have one.

Sod, I use the soft straps on the bars as well as removing the hooks from the tie downs and replacing them with locking carabiners. Cut yourself a 4x4 to fit between the tire and the fender to prevent the forks from bouncing while hauling the bike.

I have a new billet throttle tube as well as a pair of pro tapers for your bike available in the parts link below. I'm out of master cylinders (BTW, the 01 - 04 Yamaha master cylinder is the same. I understand the 02 - 04 CR master cylinder is a much better unit than the Yamaha.

Don't get cheap straps - Dunno if this is what caused it, but I've had a few of those wal-mart ratcheting straps that aren't worth a darn and will slip and back off!

whyzee, I absolutely love the bike!!! I can't believe I waited so long to go to a 250, but the '04 makes the wait worthwhile. The power delivery is perfect. After my second day on the bike I can actually rip it around the track like my 125 (well, for the most part). Thanks again for hooking me up!

Oh yeah, there is a chance we might go check out that track near Henderson this weekend. If we like it we will probably be going back there more often. We will probably hit Archer's Lodge sometime soon too. Heck, maybe all the NC tracks. Hopefully we can meet up one day for some riding.

Glad you like the 250. I loved it too.
I would not waste your time on archers, it is a dump!
The track is 20 minutes away from me and not worth the drive.

NCMP in Henderson is supposed to be a nice track

You would also like Thunder Valley in Yadkinville, he's done some good soil work to the track and on a dry day the track would be perfect.

Maybe I'm getting Archer's mixed up with another place, I can't keep track. Anyway, I'm probably going to sell the 125. I really don't want to, but it seems like the fiscally responsible thing to do.
