Hi, I replaced the stock piston and rings in my 99CR250 with a wiseco pro-lite set and have a question on ring end gap. Included with the piston is a small sheet of paper that gives a min end gap of .012. I checked the rings by following Eric's top-end guide(positioned between the exhaust port and the top of the cyl) and I got a tight .012 . This is my first time rebuilding an engine and I was wondering if this is a safe gap? Also, I read your guide and it says to put the circlips on either open end up or open end down, I did open end down on both sides. I spoke with the local honda shop and they said to put them in open end on the sides, so now I am worried if I put the circlips in wrong? Help me please! :ugg:

You are OK with .012" ring end gap.

The c-clips should be with the openings either up or down. As the piston moves up and down the forces can compress the c-clip and it can fall out. Some will argue that it doesn't make any difference but why take a chance.
