Engine Idle and valve adjustment

What is the best way to go about adjusting the idle on a 400 EXC? The manual has a whole page on it and says you need a special tool that I don't have. The bike Idles really fast and its time to turn it down. Also, what about valve adjustment, when do I need to do this? What is the best way to go about doing it? I don't think there is anything in the manual except for the seating specs.

SandRster, The idle adjustment knob is located on the left side of the carb, black knob, just turn it with your fingers. Valve adjustment should be done around 100 hrs or at least by 1000mls. Valve adjustment isnt that hard to do, it is a bit tricky finding TDC though. Do a search hear or on holeshot, there is a thread on holeshot that goes into detail.
