I hate to hear how people take advantage of the elderly like that, but it's great to see that there are people in this world like you and your wife Carlo, who will do what they have to do to rectify a situation.

My grandfather did something similar to his father and ending up doing thousands of dollars in home improvements once great-grampa died. It's tragic, really.

I hope everything works out for the best. I'm sure it will as you and your wife are doing a wonderful thing. There's nothing better in life than helping another in need, especially a family member.

good job there carlos!, its terrible the way some of our elders get taken care of these days.
What ever you do, keep him moving, walks around the block help them more then you think! When they had my dad in therapy last fall (hes only 88, year younger then 89er) :rotfl: swimming, and walking he was like a differant person...Then he started saying "what for" and quit, now we have to help him out of the chair, and its all he can do to get to the bedroom! Keep him movin :ride:

He's going to need lots of companionship. If possible, a pet for elderly gives him something that is dependant on him for daily meals, walks and grooming. We all want to feel needed and a pet can really help out there.

Elk, you're a good man. Maybe time to pull out the rubber hose (you know, from the dark place you like to hide it)?

Guess what, everyone, I changed my first tire for a stranded woman the other day. On FWY 99 in Madera, two ladies stranded in the middle divide during rush hour... I passed them, saw they weren't in a good spot... conscience couldn't let me keep driving & assume someone else would stop, so I pull off a few miles later & double back to see if maybe a tow truck or at least another motorist had stopped- NO! Geeze, turns out these two college age girls had been there for ten minutes and no one had stopped. Their dad was on his way, but they were a long way from home. They were cute girls, too. So I figure it was either me, or some rapist.

Not the same, I know, but felt like sharing.

What do you guys think about him doing some swimming for exercise?

That is sort of what my mother-in-law does (91 w/pace maker).
Not really swimming, she just gets in the pool & moves around for a little while. Good resistance work out that is fairly relaxing as well.

let me know if you need a hook up on any geriatric equipment.

No need on the help with that equipment John, 89er has plenty to go around! I think I'll get him some floaty things and toss him in the pool. Brushes on the feet.....hmmmm, I like it. I can do the same for his walker, spray some pledge on some rags and put them on the front, send him up and down the hall and it'll take care of the wood floors. This is alot of fun having time with him, and a pet sounds real good too. I have a 150lb Dane that thinks he's a lap dog, you think?

Elkster.

I have a saddle you can borrow. :rotfl:

But seriously now, the pool idea is a good one. They have treated injured race horses for years now using swimming pools. High resistance low impact. Very good for elderly people.

I would send some of my geriatric equipment but I can't remember where I put it. ;) :moon:
