Hey, great to have you aboard! I'm currently running a PC pipe with the shorty silencer on my '01 KX250. But, I've recently gotten more into woods riding. I'm looking for a pipe that is noticeably quieter than the shorty (especially with all of the issues regarding noise levels and our riding areas being closed). Is there a marked difference in sound levels between the regular Factory Sound silencer and the Spark Arrestor? It's been recommended to buy the FMF Turbine II, but I'd rather keep it a PC system, if you know what I mean!

So, is the Factory Sound pipe not that quiet? My Shorty is very loud, comparable to the Factory Sound? I do want quiet, I just didn't want to spend the extra 40 bucks for a silencer (SA) that makes just as much noise as the cheaper one (Factory Sound). Thanks!

Soon Pro Circuit will be release the NEW Type 296 silencer to help with the 96 db law passed in California. Here is some information:
Much like the Nature Friendly (spark arrester) model, the Type 296 is a functional spark arrester that meets US Department of Forestry standards, maximizing performance. The difference is the longer canister to lower the noise level to legal dB. Built with specially engineered internal metal baffle, chambers, and sound-absorbing materials for muffled exhaust sound and no loss of motor performance. The dynamic design eliminates the chance of spark leaving the exhaust system. Like it's parents the R-304 and 304, the Type 296 silencer features our FIM approved stainless steel end cap and intake tube. The silencer body is made from extruded aluminum to reduce weight. Silencer re-packing is an easy is an easy task because of the removable allen head screws on the intake end of this silencer.

Pro Circuit has already started working on the new models for the Type 296. We hope to have all the models done by the end of March. We will also have a quiet silencer for the 4-strokes. This silencer will be called the Type 496.

Is the 496 a straight through absorbtion type or mechanically baffled ?
