Okay, the Oakley sunglasses thread got me thinking again about something that I find humorous. What is the deal with the 70’s fad coming back into style with the Junior High and High school kids? Maybe I’m just a fashion retard (quite possibly) but that style looked ridiculous when I was a kid and now kids today look ridiculous reviving it! Like these glasses for instance, reminds me of something my 70+ year old Aunts wear!

Had I known the little terry cloth shorts, tank tops with the spaghetti strings that tie at the shoulder, halter tops, tube tops and various other items of clothing that I now cringe to see myself wearing in the old photo albums, would be so popular today I would have saved them and made a fortune! What next, the 80’s?! As much as I loved the 80’s if I start to see that fashion trend returning (may still exist in Texas) :p I’m going to pull the next High School kid I see wearing it over and shake them silly! Let’s move on to something new people! :silly:

I absolutely dread the semi-annual trips to the mall or clothing stores when I need new clothes. There’s nothing for me. I have the choice of looking like some frumpy old school marm or like some skanky Jr. High kid trapped in a time warp! I walk into some of the clothing stores I used to frequent and many times I make an about face and walk right back out! I guess if I was looking for some entertainment I could peruse these stores to get a few good giggles but when I need new clothes it can get pretty distressing. And what pisses me off even more is how expensive the “normal” clothes seem to be (if you can find them). It would be cheaper to dress like some fashion challenged high school kid. Can you tell I’m dreading the inevitable, impending clothes shopping trip. :(

I had a date recently with a hippy chick--you know...the kinda girl that likes Widespread Panic. I picked her up and noticed immediately that she was wearing window-pane jeans. Yeah, that's right...WINDOW-PANE JEANS! I spent the entire evening hoping none of my friends would see me with her.

I was at a bud's house last week, and his 12 year old son cruised in wearing Wallabies. Remember those? The original stoner shoes. (Not that I ever wore them, but I do remember them...vaguely.) :confused:

I already survived the Seventies. I don't wanna go through that again.

The people who wear this crap are the ones that are supposed to be making the individuality statement!

I think feathered hair is killer. Some of the stuff the young kids are wearing these days makes me laugh. Anyone like the "one pant leg pulled up" gangster look? Especially on suburban white kids with tennis visors on backwards/upside down.

Hmm, I dunno. I kinda like the mix of 70's and 90's style. For instance, my hair is pretty shaggy (no pun intended) and I like it. I wear boots with buckles instead of laces. My dad said they had those when he was a kid too. And his aunt or mother said they were "fruit boots". But, you know what, I really could care less. Besides my whole wardrobe consists of Abercrombie t-shirts and jeans or khaki cargo shorts. Does this make me a bad person? I don't think so.

i grew up in the 70's and i don't have a clue what you are talking about. was i that far out of it? or was/is oklahoma that far out of it? maybe i just drank too much beer.

The 70's and 80's rock man there groovy. Its all about standing out I know I'm 16 and "had a fro" cut it off 2 weeks ago, wear the baggy pants and tight shirt. by the way those glasses rock were would a person get some shades like that. But the 70's thing is ending now the dark side is coming in(dark clothes bunny hugs stuff like that).

P.s for all you men out there chics dig the big hair but it gets very annoying.

In my day we wore big bell bottoms and we would cut the hem off the bottom first (manditory two washings before wearing so they frayed nicely). We would wear these pants till they had holes in them and then we would sew cool patches over the holes, except for the knees...the bare knee was a status symbol. We also wore Julius' "Earth Boots" but only for Sunday-go-to-meetin', other than that we wore the low cut Converse tennis shoes which were of course in one of our school colors and the laces in the other. WE were the originators of Tie-Dye shirts!(we had to make our own)
Some of us on the cutting edge of cool wore the deerskin vests with lots of tassles. For quite awhile we all wore the three strap boots with the rings on the sides, and taps were manditory! Until the Platform Shoe came along :eek:

Now if you were mega cool and on the swim team, you HAD to have a pair of Mark Spitz starz-n-stripes Speedos!

Hey now, i like widespread panic, and so do lots of my friends that are in no ways hippies. Thier music is one of the few alternatives to the new hip hop crap that has permeated our society and which glorifies violence, objectification of women(not bad in much smaller quantities, cause we all know hot chicks rock).That music is, in my opinion one of the problems w/ kids, but i am old enough to remember wallabies.

I was in jr. high and high school during the fashion trends of the late 70's and early 80's. Wearing Wrangler's and Tony Lama's guaranteed that I stood out from the rest of the crowd and every few years the "cowboy" look comes into fashion again. So either I'm a trend-setter or living in the past. :scream:
