It's been about 10 years since I've spent any real time on a dirt-bike, and that was an XR-80!
Well, recently, I've had the chance to spend a few weekend afternoons on a friends CR-250 in the woods and I'm starting to remember just how much fun it is. He races a KTM 300 in enduros and after tagging along to a couple of enduros and hare-scrambles, I've decided to give it a try this coming season.
Since I have been away from riding for quite awhile, the KDX 220 seemed to me to be a nice compromise between power and size for a new rider which leads me to this question.
A local dealer has a "01 KDX 220 which was only ridden about 4-5 times in the woods. The last ride resulted in a leg cast for the owner and a broken front number plate and odometer for the bike. Other than that the bike appears to be in VERY good condition. I've had my friend check it out for me and he thinks it is very good condition...no major or hidden damage as far as he could tell.
The owner, about 3 months ago, was asking $3700 for it which I thought was too high. Well, I stopped in today and now he's gone down to $2950. Does this sound like a fair price?
The 220 will be more fun to ride in the woods than the CR250. lots more.
$2950 for a 01 sounds like a fair deal if there's nothing wrong with the bike. If it needs a new odometer and headlight/numberplate then I would talk them down.
Are there a lot of used bikes in your area???????????? If so I'd shop around for one that has nothing at all wrong with it.
On second thought you better buy it. It's a good price, and I just did a traderonline.com search for used KDX's in Louisiana and came up with zero. You might not come across another one any time soon.
I will most likely be picking it up next week. And, freydog, you are correct. CRs, KXs, etc are fairly common in this area, but used, good condition, enduro bikes are few and far between.
Thanks, again.
By the way, any suggestions on a good web-site for replacement factory parts...fenders, number plates, etc.
I paid $3600 for my '01 220 new. I think you are getting a steal of a deal:, :think or did I get ripped? Anyway, the 220 is a great woods and hare scramble bike....Good luck

I'm picking up a new 2001 220 today that I paid $3800 for and I did feel like I was getting a good deal until I read this line. Oh well, I'm pumped anyway.
Now I just get to prep it for spring and look at it in the garage and make 2 stroke sounds for 3+ months of winter MN weather. 90 days of warranty will be a little wasted though.

i paid 4500 out the door at big red kawasaki, i think it was fair, but advertised price in want ad press was 3800, after taxes, prep and title ect came to 4500,great bike for the money bye c10
S.R.P. on my '01 200 was $3,999 and I picked mine up this past Sept. for $3,750 (new). A couple of buddies of mine thought that was a good deal and after having the bike for 2 months, so do I!:)
$4250 OTD for an 02, KDX220 in Fort Worth TX, I was happy. $2950 sounds pretty good to me for the 01. I have done the suspension, pipe, and silencer on my bike and am much happier with the poweband now. Still have to fine tune the jetting, but, I think I'll keep it;)
I just bought a used 2001 KDX200 and I paid $2700 for it. I went to the local dealer and they told me $4696 for a new 2002 KDX220. I told them to go screw. I think that is a fair price for the bike. My new bike is in good shape and no mods. Now I have to mod the hell out of it.
Check out Cycle-Parts.com for the prices on OEM parts. The only draw back is a $200.00 minimum order :(
