IMHO the best music to EVER come out of Seattle was by one James Marshall Hendrix. Unfortunately he died before his time. People used to compare Kurt Cobain’s life to that of Jimi Hendrix. Personally Nirvana’s music will never achieve the same impact as Jimi’s.

I first heard Soundgarden play at the old Trade Center building, on the North end of downtown Seattle, in ’87 or ’88. Some of their best music never achieved airplay. After the lead singer of Mother Love Bone died from, surprise, a drug overdose, SG and the remaining MLB members got together and recorded and album under the band name Temple of the Dog. This group, sans the SG members, later became Pearl Jam.

Here’s some more trivia for Papa:

Which member of Guns & Roses is originally from Seattle?

What was the title of the only single by the group L7 to break the top-40?

Do any of you know what the "L" and "7" represent?:think I do! That's a good trivia question.

In March of 90, on a cold KC night, I saw (in this order) Soundgarden, Prong and VoiVod at a club in downtown KC. My first ever mosh pit! Woohoo!

Anyone ever listen to VoiVod? I liken them to dark beer-an aquired taste.:D

Anybody know these?

“You’re down there shooting blanks from broken guns.
You fire all day long and still not hit a farging one.
Don’t wanna know what some sick, sniper “punk” thinks is fun.
You probly through a party, serve them melted ice cream on the crumbs.”

“All the locals hide their tears of regret
open fire cause I love you to death
sky high with a heartache of stone
you never see me cause I’m always alone.”

And one Nirvana lyric for all you who don’t dig ‘em.

“If you ever need anything please don’t
hesitate to ask someone first.
I’m to busy acting like I’m not naïve,
I’ve seen it all, I was here first.”

P.S. Am I the only Deftones fan here?

bwalker - Yeah, but so do a lot of young actors in Hollywood and rich suburban white kids in the D/FW area. Heroin, drugs in general, are a major problem no matter where you go. How's that crack problem in Detroit?

Don't single out one area or one group. :ugg:

No problemo! I figger you deserve a break after all the ribbing you've taken lately! :)

Interestingly enough, the only Voivod tune I thought was cool ended up being a cover of a Pink Floyd song-- Astronomy Domine.

Lou, the Misfits are still around and kicking butt! I know, I know, hard to think of the Misfits without Glenn Danzig, but you have to check out the "American Psycho" CD. Jammin tunes like "Walk Among Us", "Dig Up Her Bones", "From Hell They Came".

Trivia Answers:

Since no one will bite-The "L" and the "7" in "L7" represent a square. Back in the 50's (so I'm told) the saying was, "Man, that guy is a real L7."

Astronomy Domine. "Lime and limpid green the sound surrounds the icy waters under-Lime and limpid green the sound surrounds the icy waters underground..."

Now that I have satellite after 2 years without cable, I have MTV2 and I have seen Soundgarden's "Loud Love" and Rage Against The Machine's "Freedom". That kicks butt!

Papa-You absolutely HAVE to give a listen to VoiVod's "Nothingface" and "Dimension Hatross":
Inside a giant particle accelerator, a beam of protons, traveling near the speed of light meets a beam of antiprotons moving equally fast in the opposite direction. The protons and mirror-image antiprotons annhihilate each other, creating the fiery chaos of a parallel micro-galaxy. Experiment one complete, the VoiVod goes into that new dimension, meeting different civilizations and psychic entities, extracting knowledge and evergy in the eight programs of this project called: DIMENSION HATROSS

You might wanna get Rich to verify that, however.:D

"Let's Pretend We're Dead", or "Off The Wagon" ? L7 ROCKS! (It doesn't hurt that they're chicks. . .)

My personal favorites? "Andres" and "Stuck Here Again".

RATM are excellent. Too bad they're gone.

Gotta say I miss the 80's music, Big Lou, AJ, you guys bring back some great memories.
One of my favorite lyrics: Lots of people talkin, few of them know, the soul of a woman was created below. The mighty Zep.

Lots of great stuff you guys/gals have talked about, much I've not heard of or don't remember. Its sad, or maybe age, but I'm finding more stuff from the 80's that I like now verses then, and not just commercial radio stuff.

Big Lou, is Shooting Star and the Rainmakers still around? I saw the Shooting Star once, and the Rainmakers twice. Love the Rainmakers stuff, Government Cheese, Big Fat Blonde ( Ok, it was Steve, Rich, and Bob, but a great song none the less), Rockin At The T-Dance, Downstream, Everybody's Drinking On The Job. The list is endless. I burned a cd a few months ago, the wife gets tired of listening to it!

No ones gone this direction, but you gotta love Otis Redding. Like someone all ready said, good music never goes out of style!

The wife saw Elvis when she was 6, all she remembers is the big white cape. Or, maybe that was the big old fat man! Does that beat the Monkeys... I believe...

DING
We have a winner!
Your first guess was right. Pretend We're Dead was the only L7 song to break the top-40.

L7 = 69?

Buy the way have you heard the modern incarnation of L7 named Kittie. That's some heavy stuff.

B

biglou

L7=A square. Like from the 50's- "Man, that guy is an L7!"

Sawblade-I think the Rainmakers are gone. Occasionally I here something about Shooting Star. KC's latest claim to fame is "Puddle of Mudd". They're kinda growing on me. I know they're overplayed on the radio, but I rarely listen to the radio.
