Went for my first single track ride last night with our very own KTM Mike as my tour guide. The first section of trail had more rocks in it then I thought possible. After thinking about it for some time I'm pretty sure someone must walk along and place them in certain spots. There's no other explanation as to how some of them got to where they were.1/2 way in to our ride I was feeling a little more comfortable and starting to pick up the pace I was thinking Mike Lafferty better look out when bam a maple, very large in size wacked me up side the head and shoulder area sending me off the trail eating some dirt along the way. After shaking the cobwebs out of my head and firing the bike back up.I was on my merry humbled way.Much the wiser as hitting tree's does in deed hurt.So for the rest of the ride I did manage to stay out of the tree's way and had a very good time.Much to learn yet about my riding ablity and suspension tuning. All in all it was fun and plan to do it again.Mike thanks for showing me the ropes.Mike

Mike, I enjoyed the ride as well! All the rocks and roots on the mio loop do make for a challeng in some parts of it! All the recent hard rain really washed out a lot of sand, and seemed to expose lots of fresh stuff making it even worse. Them tree and rock gnomes do make them jump out in front of you at the worst moments! You were crusing along quite well actually - i fear you will quickly be faster than I am! Not that that is very fast - try to keep f&s (Mike (the Other Other Mike) remotely in sight...impossible for me to do!

You seriously should consider either of the events next weekend. The Saturday ride will be much slower, but you can learn TONS of what to expect, timekeeping etc. Sunday will be longer and faster, and I am sure plenty of bark busting to do, but I think you would fare pretty well through it all. The Other Mike (CR250) will be there trying for the overall now that he is on a pumpkin. Should be a fun time. I can help you out with getting all set up, and my wife can run gas for you.

Silver,

We laid out a piece of single track for F&S when he was smaller, and made him go around and around it, hopefully not banging into trees and such until he became a fairly competent rider. (he's still learning)

Be sure to come to the Saturday events, because they are at 12 MPH rather than 24... they give you a chance to learn... at your own pace.

Don - great point about working a check. You can learn tons. And from the fish hats I saw at the spring pine cone, evidently can have a bit of fun along the way! I had a blast and learned a lot when I helped Fred at the Jackpine a couple years ago. (fifteeeeeen seconds......)

Silver - see...you just gotta show up one way or the other...Ride or work a check for the Saturday event, Ride or work a check on Sunday, or ride one day, work the other... no escaping it.

OGB - no need for you to change your name - you are Senior! (fairly compentent at that!)
