I am in the market for a new silencer. The stock one is worn out its welcome and is probably plugged anyways. The question is which one should I get..the Power Core II, the Power Core II shorty, or the Turbine Core. From what I understand, the Turbine is the only one that is a spark arrester as well. Do I need a spark arrester for some types of racing such as hare scrambles and poker runs? Do I need one in order to ride in ORV parks? Thanks in advance peeps...

Your assumptions about the Turbine Core are correct. It is a spark arrestor and IS needed to ride in most OHV parks, and on state and federal lands (If there are any left near you). If you ride on private land or MX parks and never plan on riding a OHV park then any FMF silencer will work fine. In fact the Power Core II makes a slight bit more power than the Turbine Core since it is a straight thru design where the Turbine Core has turbine fins to ward off any rogue sparks. Never heard anything good or bad about the Power Core Shorty other than it is "supposed" to increase low end.

Aftermarket S/A

As mikeb says..The 'A' part of the S/A (arrestor)is required for off road riding other than MX tracks pretty much.

You might consider something other than an FMF. Read thru some posts to find that FMF fit is usually awful, mounting hardware commonly not included/missing (you need some sort of bushing..the bolt heads go clean thru the oversize holes), the fit at the pipe joint will likely leak..and the oem boot doesn't fit.

The lack of a protruding pipe out the back of the TCII can at times be a pain. While it's not meant as a reefing point, sometimes it sure is handy to be able to grab ahold of something right about there.

All of these issues are NOT issues with the ProCircuit S/A.

With either the FMF or the PC, you'll get a marked increase in pull on the bottem end. Notwithstanding argument to the contrary, I've ridden both the FMF and the PC units on 200s. Both were put on to replace the stock unit. Both bikes improved on the bottom end. Multiple riders of the bikes thought so.

The FMF is quieter than the PC. The PC has a pretty good 'buzzz' out the tip when the jetting is right. My rev pipe (usually run the torque) on my 200 is plain LOUD!

Silencer

If your going with just a silencer I would stongly recommed a Pro- circuit. THe fit is much better than the FMF and there is room for your hand bettween the fender and the silencer wth the PC, you will loose that with the FMF.

Here's something bad about the "Shorty" silencer: They are LOUD ! Obnoxiously so.

Yeah Spanky, that is what I thought about the shorty as well. Never heard one, but, if its shorter and gives more grunt from the bottom, it must be louder. Out here at the ORV park I race at sometimes, they do sound checks. So I defintely want to be quiet. Sounds like the long S/A one for me.
Thanks guys.
