FTA Satellite

Has anyone heard of or using a FTA (free to air) satellite receiver? A friend was telling me about them the other day says he has one and it works great. I have not been over to his house to check it out yet but I want to see it. Is this something new or am I just behind the times?

You're behind the times. I personally haven't used one as I haven't the time or interest in learning the setup but I have several friends who are happy with them. My understanding is the receiver you get is crucial to your sucess, also very few people using them are doing it with the strictly free channels, most steal Dishnet and Bell's signals.
