Do a search on ATF and gear oil; there was a long lengthy thread on the pros and cons of all options a month ago. All and more about each option is discussed in length.
wel you can run that 85 90w stuff, not just gear oil, but a specific kind. can be found at almost any motorcycle shop.
ATF is automatic transmission fluid
I just run 10w-40 motorcycle oil and keep up on checking it and changing it every 5 hours or so. sill comes out clean, i also run one of those magnetic drain plugs for some extra protection.
Just make sure it IS 80/85W GEAR oil; not hypoid gear oil. 80W gear oil is about like a 10W motor oil; 80W hypoid is 80W and your tranny won't like it (its for differentials and the like).
I just mentioned the ATF to search as the whole subject of what to run was thouroghly discussed a month or so agao.
Just a light gear oil should do in a 2 stroke. How come some people use a motor oil, its not really meant to go in a gearbox
is it ? Saying that it does in the 4 strokes ? Is there any thing special about a "Motorbike oil".... The difference between a motor oil & a gear oil I belive. Is a gear oil is capable of working under great pressure, ie being compressed between gears. An ATF is the sort of oil that would go into a power steering pump or a auto box, It is more viscouse. I would only use a gear oil in my 2 stroke box. Unless some one can tell me different and give me the reasons why....
