I think it's a kx125. I was reading the posts and hoping that no one guessed right before I got a chance to reply. Did I win, huh, huh?

Somebody's been lusting after a vintage YZ....

If I had room in the garage, I'd get one of these....

OK, since you're on this little tricky streak...you said there's nothing ORANGE in the crate...does that mean it can be a KTM with a different color plastic? Gosh...you're really enjoying this, aren't you? :moon:

I'm going to go on a limb and say the bike Smitty got isn't going to be his primary ride, but something he can plonk around on afterward. Is it a trials bike?

Yes, there is not an orange KTM in the crate....

In fact, I can categorically state that there isn't even a KTM in the crate.

Nor is there a Hodaka, Rupp, Penton, BSA, CZ, or Bultaco in the crate. Did I say Husaberg? No, there's not one of those in the crate either.

I gotta break the tension here.........

There was a MTRer named Smitdog who was as rotten as could be,
when he gets done with his latest ploy he'll get NO sympathy!!
It seems that Smitty has never heard of the boy who cried out "WOLF",
If this is just some trick my friend, twill be no minor SPOOF!
I have heard of folks like Billy's kind who play these kinda stuff,
they forget what it is like once done, things can get pretty rough!
If I was he who is doing this and had not REAL bike to show,
I would hurry down to the nearest shop and come home with nothing slow!!!

But, as I futher inspect the picture I see that there is no snow. Either, you have very little snow, or that isn't your pic.

I am with Fender on this one - I think he gets the prize!!
He is 100% about the pipe, also the rear tire looks to small to be a 100, the shadow of the front end sure looks like an 85!
Here are some other things I noticed.. The rear AX looks to my ol eyes to be missing its cotter key, I think it (the ax) may be in backwards cause I believe most KX axle's come in from the left, the right peg looks like it has a rub on it, the pipe end looks scuffed a little.
My guess is a very lightly used 2001 KX85, and yes thats my final answer!!
WAY TO GO FENDER!!!

Well, don't rule out a KX 80 either...that's another possibility.

Now it's just up to Smit-Dog to give us the final word.

The last pic was a pretty good giveaway, but for the web-savvy detectives, the '8.jpg' file naming convention was an open invitation to view pics 1-7. Just change the '8' to a '7' in the URL, and so on.

The bike is a hybrid of sorts. It was built and owned by Clay Wolfe, owner of C&M Machine & Racing Products out of Texas. If you are a KTMTalk member, you may be familiar with Clay and his work. He built it as a "beginner" or "ladies" woods bike, with what he calls the "enduro package".

The bike started out life as a 2000 KX-80. A KX-100 jug was added, and it was ported for low-end power. It also has brand new KX-100 rims and tires, so essentially it's a KX-100 chassis and engine-wise.

I was originally looking at this bike for Zach. After deciding it'd be too big for him, I thought that it'd be a good woods bike for my wife. And a couple years down the road, Zach can easily take it over.

The bike also has Pro Circuit pipe, new 2003 stock silencer (have to replace with spark arrestor), new plastic, new Boyesen reeds, new wheel bearings front/rear, new Starcross rubber front/rear, new gold chain, new Renthal sprockets, new Renthal handlebars, new gripper seat cover, new swingarm bearings. The bike has approximately 20 hours on it since being rebuilt.

For the rest of the story...

...and you expected us to guess THAT? :|

That's a sweet ride! Congrats to you and your family on the new bike! Now all you need is a bike for yourself. But PLEASE don't make it this hard on us when you get your own bike! :)

Eagle-eye Woodsy! The bike is missing a cotter pin out of the rear axle. I've just had enough time to take it out of the crate, fire it up (3rd kick -whew!), and hot-dog it around my yard last night. What a blast!

It's definitely a used-bike, but I'm fairly confident the key components are solid. I still have to do a partial tear down and really inspect it. It's always a leap of faith buying a used bike that's 1,200 miles away, sight-unseen other than pictures.

It is exactly the type of bike I was looking for; small chassis, good suspension, light-weight, woods-friendly powerband, and cheap. I just couldn't see paying double for a semi-anemic 125 4 stroke that weighs 25-30 lbs more than the little KX. And, it buys me a couple more years to accommodate Zach's growth spurts.

Fender - Congrats on being the first to correctly identify the bike - well... close enough anyway. You get the first ride this spring!

Sorry Fender but I dont go along with that at all! Marlinberg stated something about us Dirtriders being "Sadistic". Guess I fall into that group cause I am really glad Smitdog took this approach..

"Thanks for playing along! Now back to your regularly scheduled winter boredom..." just dont cut it!!! NO...NO....you cant make me go!!!!!!!

Note the smiley face after I said that...I was joking :thumb: I had a lot of fun trying to figure out the puzzle...heck I posted about 5 billion times in this thread! The other bike will probably be a little easier to guess, though!
