I am doing a complete engine rebuild, Bearings connecting rod, piston etc.. on my KDX-220 1997 which I bought about one year ago. While taking the engine apart I noticed that the Governer shaft was welded on both the lower part and the upper part (nut) probably the previous owner did not know it had reverse thread and that the shaft had to be supported while thightening My question is do I use the shaft as it is or do I have to replace the shaft? what's the price of a new shaft? ;)

Same thing happened to me. I bit the bullet and replaced everything. 1) I wanted it fixed and 2) Even if I left it alone, when the time comes I would not feel right about selling the bike in that condition. Here's what it cost:
