Hi there,

I recently purchased an 89 yz 250 which is rather difficult to start cold. I have to place a small amount of fuel into the combustion chamber to get it to fire. After it starts once it will fire up every kick. Any Ideas???

I would check things in this order:
new plug

choke assembly not working right<when you get it running and warmed up will it make the bike run rich and blubberry>

clogged pilot jet take it out hold on tight and blast that baby with some compressed air making sure all the little holes are clear do not use wire to poke it clean

worn reeds take out the reed cage and make sure they are not chipped frayed and are lying flat against the reed block

worn top end do a compresion check " I" would like to see atleast 180 lbs per sq inch

hope this helps
