G'day All,

My daughter has broken the end off the gear selector shaft of her 2000 KX80. I have been told that on some bikes it is possible to replace the shaft from the clutch side. Does anyone know if this is possible on her KX80 or will the cases need splitting?

Thanks in advance.

I did that on my DR350. I have not worked on a KX 80, but that side cover is not that hard to take off and if you are careful you might not even have to replace the gasket. Also, you might a look at a parts fish. the diagram of how it fits together might give you a hint to see if you can do it.

Thanks Danman. I had a look at the fiche but couldn't tell. Anyway the shop manual turned up yesterday and, for the record, you can replace the gear selector shaft on a 2000 KX80 without splitting the cases.

Cheers.
