gone as in they are bulldozing it flat.

apparently the owners would have let it run for longer, but with all the noise from that group, they were backed into a corner and pulled the plug early.

While "Carlsbad Raceway" was a big chunk of real estate, two separate racing entities operate(d) there. The drag strip was different than the MX track.

I don't believe the group (San Diego Off Road Coalition) that is trying to revive Carlsbad is as concerned about drag cars as they are about motorcycle racing....

I don't believe that either MX track (upper or lower GP) has been bulldozed yet. Kinda crazy to launch an effort to save something that has been operating month to month for 17 years, and is now being developed... just wait, the airport is next. Building tons of houses close to Carlsbad airport, and with typical mob mentality, they'll try and shut it down to "save their home values". Same arguement the mobs use for the Gestapo home owner's associations. We almost lost Oceanside airport in the past year, but that fight won't be over until tract homes / condos / freeways / business parks / shopping malls are on every square inch of southern California.

These fights cannot be won as long as people keep wanting to come to SoCal. There's only so much land (and water), and things that take up land (and make noise) like airports and race tracks won't win in the long haul against the mobs.

shut it down to "save their home values"

Not "save" them, they're trying to game it. Get their land while prices are low then run the airport off so the value of their land goes up. Smart, but it screws the rest of us.
