I blamed it on not turning the schematic upside down to match the carb. The issue did get magically resolved, with the floats oriented properly. Vintage Bob
OK, so I checked the floats, made sure they were the right way, checked seals, and then i went to start it up again, and now I have no spark. I think this may have been the issue in the first place, weak spark.
So we checked the timing according to the manual, using a lamp and a 6v battery, and one of the stator wires connects to the lamp, other lamp lead goes to battery, and neg of battery goes to ground. The manual states that the lamp should darken when the points open, but the delimma we noticed was that it darkened in quite a few places.
Im thinking maybe a weak stator, but the stator tests out when we ohmmeter it.
Its one problem after a next :yell:
OK, I missed that this was an old points system ignition. That changes things!
I recommend replacing both the points and the condenser.
With new or old points the first thing to do is make sure that the gap is correct. If the points are not opening far enough or open too far then your spark will never be right. The gap is measured at the maximum opening.
Until the points are adjusted the timing is irrelevant, as adjusting the points will change the timing.
