hot pipe

My roommate just bought a 99 yz400f a couple of weeks ago and hasn't taken it out yet. Yesterday when he started it up, he let the bike just sit there and run for like 5 minutes and the pipe turned bright orange from the heat. I just assumed that it's because there was no air running through the radiator or cooling off the bike. Anyone think it's something else? Something wrong maybe?

no theres nothing wrong its exactly what you said the bike didnt get any air through the radiator my friend also has on same year it does it all the time and in trails it overheats very easily unless you keep moving on the track its fine but stop and go it overheats very quickly.
