How to check a VIN number

Anyone know how I can do it to make sure a bike is not stolen?

Email it to Elk.

I just did this w/ Elk on the last 2 bikes.
I called the State DMV on the last one, they have a national database.

Call any dealer that carries the brand. They can look up the VIN (or get it looked up) to determine where the bike was delivered, and who it was sold to. It's a start anyway.
