Hi, Im a rider from Guatemala and I have just begun to do some riding. My uncle lets me use his bike in the motocross trck. I tried to follow some of the guys that were around there and they just killed me. That was my first time in a motocross bike so I was a little nervous  . But after 5 laps I began to make fast turns and to skid and I was almost even with the guys. On the flat parts and curves I was all right bu in the jumps I sucked big time :( . I started all right bu mostly I landed on the front tire and in the air my feet left the pegs and I landed on my family jewels :aj: SO I'm asking anyone of you masters at the sport to just give me the basics on the jump. And I want to know how to make the tail go to the right o lef(so that I do not do it) like the good guys do. And how to prevent the front wheel landing and to know how revved my bike should be and other stuff :) Any help will please me!

The best thing you can do, is to buy the video: Art of jumping 2, from Mr.Bailey. I was in the same situation and now i`m jumping over 20 m table tops. Be careful with the landings! I was not, i was thinking i`m good at this part and now i`m injuried with my ankel.

This is has worked from for me, its my method on jumping.

I come up to the jump fast, about 10 feet before the jump I let off throttle then right when I am about to hit it like about 3 feet in front of it I give the bike steady throttle like i guess half throttle and it keeps me even in the air and i land on both wheels well It makes me land perfect!

in the air my feet left the pegs and I landed on my family jewels

The problem there is that you were not griping the bike with your legs you have to grip the bike good with your legs in the air then you wont lose the bikes and it helps with moving the bike in the air

Hope this helped, Good luck be carefull and have a blast riding! :aj:

One thing I always noticed when I was landing on my front rim or bouncing off the pegs is that my legs were always stiff. Think of your legs as shocks on a bike. You want them to bend when you hit the jump. If you find your front tire is coming down first, you need to stay on the throttle when you hit the jump.

You're probably rolling off the throttle just before you hit and you want to make sure you have plenty of torque when you first hit the bottom of the jump.

Also, if you find the front end coming down while you're in the air, give it some throttle (while you're in the air). This will bring up your front end.

Your best best it to find a smaller jump and practice on that until you get a little more comfortable to hit the bigger ones.

Don't let your friends pressure you into hitting anything too big. We want to continue seeing you on the bike, not in the hospital.

Good Luck. I know I need it.

I agree you should not be pressured to do anything uncomfortable.
One of my mantras is "to slowly push your limits", every time you ride, and practice good, racing, habits, even if you don't intend to race!

I found it better to practice jumps on "moderate" table tops. It gave me time to get both wheels on the slope before going into the air, and helped me on throttle control.
To some people.....A few ,the art of jumping comes naturaly.
for the rest of us, you have to understand the science. And most importantantly, practice, practice, practice
safely!

from the sound of it, you are sitting down when you hit the jump. that will throw you up into the air. just stand up and leave the lip with a steady amount of gas and let off when you are in the air, that way the bike levels out a little.

I used to sit down on jumps. it took some disipline to standup at first, but it helped my landings. I used to standup to late, on the decline.
I found out very quickly not to sit down before landing! I.e "Family Jewels". The "knees as shocks" worked well for me also.
(still a beginner, tring hard to go novice)

In another thread, under the name of "japadilla", our friend here cespadilla posted this:

I will tell ya something about jumping, oldie. You have to have big balls to jump. I can jump a 100 or maybe 120 feet in the air

Your Profile under Japadilla:
#3 in the national ranking
Guatemala, Guatemala
Bike: TT-R 125
Clubs: AMA (AMA in Quatemala?)

So what's up cespadilla? I've been following your posts, you have a bike or you don't? You jump or you don't? Pick a story and stick with it.

Ouch! Called out by the Evil Emperor himself. :p Sitting down when jumping is a no no. Knees slightly bent with elbow's up. Your head should be about a foot over the bars, just far enough ahead so you can see the front of your numberplate. Steady acceleration up the face. Just practice it and you will get it in time.

Wow, I never even noticed the Japadilla identity. Sure asks a lot of questions about jumping a TTR125 for being #3 ranked! Maybe everyone there is a real slow rider? :p

On my last trip to Guatemala, I became acutely aware of a "Sasparilla" that could jump 180 foot quads on a ttr-90.

Or was that "Armadillo" in Texas jumping 160 foot triples on an xr100?

The real deal!

You guys do seem a little confused about my answers and my motorcycles and if I actually exist. The real story: I do not own a bike, I have tried a couple on the MX track including: Suzuki RM 80 or 85 cc. Yamaha TT 250, Yamaha TT-R 125 L, Yamaha WR 250, Yamaha YZ 85 cc. I do not own a bike and all of these are my cousins. I have tried jumping and I could do it pretty well on the TT, even though it is pretty heavy. Japadilla, I don´t know the guy and I can assure you that ain't me! I am not #3 in Guatemala! I barely started in the sport. That loser might as well be my cousin but I swear to god I did not write that stupid reply he put up. So get this: I AM NOT JAPADILLA. DO NOT CONFUSE ME WITH HIM! :uh: I will keep trying to get better. And there are not only 3 riders in Guatemlala. Moy Gandara won the supercross title a week ago and he beat Fabian Bartz, an American who supposedly could ride!

Okay. Yup. It's usually a "brother" or a "friend" that posted using someone's PC that took the time to create another account, having to use another email address... but yea....fine.. I believe you.

Please grow up and come back later.

Fine, don't believe me

Listen, Okiewan, after writing my last post I did ask my little brother if he did that. He admitted all the crime claiming he had seen me go in and he had too much spare time on a free period in school. What sort of an idiot would create an account just for fun and lying and make both accounts have the same last name? I am Cesar Padilla, he in Jose Andres Padilla. ;) And what sort of an idiot would still not believe this story? If I wanted to screw around I would create a member calles okiewanloser :whiner: or something. I'm not Japadilla, end of story! :aj: All I want to do is learn how to ride properly and get better, I hope you get off my back okiewan!

An idiot like me. So, you didn't know the guy and now it's your brother?

... it's all good. Just don't play games here and I won't "be on your back". Your story is crap, let it go and you're digging a deeper hole with each post. Ask your guestions, be honest and people will answer them for ya. If you want to play... go elsewhere.

hey guys. how are all the good old racing buddies doing? I have a little problem with big doubles. I always seem to kick out to my right side after terraferma. Is this caused by more pressure on my right foot? Or my body posture. I only have the problem on bigger doubles. Help me out here guys please. thanks.

Did someone delete my post? I'm sure I posted in this thread right after cespadilla's "The real deal" Post.

What happened? Am I going insane??

Sitting down when jumping is a no no

there are a couple of instances when sitting on the bike when taking off is very advantageous. As for landing I would definately prefer using my legs to help absorb the impact.

Seat bumps take a lot of practice... you've got to be HARD on the gas and stand at the right time or, well, get a new helmet cuase you just broke the mouth guard and visor off your current one. :)
