How to remove stuck gaskets from Aluminum surface?

How should I remove old stuck base gaskets without scratching aluminum?

Auto parts store will sell you some spray-on gasket remover. A friend of mine swears by spray-on oven cleaner for the same use.

Very slowly and carefully with a razor blade .Stay away from the wizzy wheels as they distort soft metals.Then you get leaks.

I used some paint remover one night when it was so cold the gasket remover would not spray out of the can. It was excellent and easy to apply with a small paint brush.

Any kind of solvent will work o.k. However, use a plastic scraper or 1/2 a credit card. One slip with a razor and you are done!

I use a paint stick and paint stripper to get the really stuck ones off

If you don't have gasket remover, you can use a plastic scraper. You can scrape to your heart's content and never hurt the soft aluminum. ;)

Oven cleaner will attack the aluminum. Use with caution.
