The price of parts varies pretty greatly around here. I stripped out my rear axle a few weeks back. One shop wanted $27.99 for the axle, $17.99 for the nut and $25.99 for the chaine tensioner block. I got the whole works from my prefered shop for $54.87 taxes included. I can tell you exactly why. I have been a loyal customer since 1990, and have bought two bikes and a sled from them. (That's what I have done for them. ) ;)

Why do I bother pricing the other guys? Makes me feel good about how "my" shop treats me.

They are pretty comparable to buying over the internet, but like bclapham, I enjoy a good chinwag during the transaction.

Chinwag.....that's one of those "sounds dirty but it isn't" words. :)

Bruce, true story, my sister went to the UK on a business trip, when she check in the Hotel the clerk asked if she wanted to be Knocked up in the morning, She threw a punch at the guy only to find out later that's what they refer to as a wake up call.

She also said that if you drop your change, leave it, you don't want to tell anybody you droped a penny, it has something to do with going to the bathroom. :scream:

youve got to admit we are a funny lot!

the phrase regarding the bathroom is "spending a penny" i think this comes from the days when you had to pay to open the lock on the stall door!

its weird how things change, when we were back home its amazing the funny looks you get when asking "where is the bathroom?", no we dont have any baths here, but the toilet is down the corridor! :p

do any of you know somebody who has recently bought at new harley davidson anywhere close to the MSRP?

as far as sporting goods go.............i know plenty about markup there. been doing it for 20ys. my gross average mark up is right at 30% based on average sales of 225k monthly and before mardowns and expenses. most sportsman would freak if they knew how much the shooting sports merchandise is exise taxed. good ole government even pre taxes arrows for crying out loud.

bottom line is that they charge what people will pay............shop, its free.

:) :) :) bc!

My brother asks when I will quit 'em too by calling them that. I just tell him I will when he quits stuffing "Worm Dirt" into his mouth ;)

Although on a side note, a guy that comes into the shop quite often did a body slide when his rear tire blew on his KLR. That little can of dip saved his a$$ literally :scream:

I think pricing and customer service is what the industry is all about, regardless if motorcycles or sqeeges. Someone goes into business because they saw a need for the intended service. What we do for them is buy their service/ product. What they do for us is to be competative and treat us well.....NOT! Up here in my neck of the woods these dealers act as if they are extending me a privilege just to walk through their door. My local Kawi shop can never help me make an informed decision on hop ups or tires for that matter. In fact I have come to the conclusion that there motto is whatever is on the shelf that day is what is the hot ticket. I purchased two bikes from them and will buy no more from them. No bikes, no word of mouth, no parts - its no wonder they have to charge so much, they need their 4 remaining customers to keep the doors open.
Example Dunlop 756 rear tire - Dealer $82.00 - Rocky mountain $42.99
Thor after shock chest protector - Dealer $125.00 - Rocky mountain $89.99
DID 520 108 link X-ring chain dealer $99.00 Rocky mountain $66.99
